THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, December 27, 1968-31 OBITUARIES Morris Weinberg, Founder-Publisher of Yiddish Paper, The Day, Dead at 93 NEW YORK (JTA) — Morris Weinberg, founder and publisher of The Day-Jewish Journal, Yid- dish-language daily, died Dec. 20 in Palm Beach at age 93. He maintained an active interest in the operation of the newspaper until his death. Mr. Weinberg established The Day as a Zionist-oriented news- paper in 1914 and to further the cause of Yiddish culture, in which he was deeply interested. He re- tired from ownership and man- agement of the paper in 1923 but returned to the helm when the paper was in difficulties in 1941. In 1953, the Jewish Morning Journal was merged with The Day. Active his entire life in the Zionist movement, Mr. Weinberg was an honorary vice president of the Zionist Organization of Amer- ica; treasurer for many years of the ZOA; attended many of the World Zionist Congresses and na- tional ZOA conventions; and visit- ed Israel frequently.
