The Best of Everything

By Danny Raskin

BECAUSE OF THE tremendous
nureber of people who have passed
through the halls during its first
year of operation (app. 250,000,
averaging 5,000 a week), Sammy
Lieberman is planning a remodel-
ing campaign for the Raleigh
House . .. He'll go to the Furni-
tuip Show in Chicago this January
for new furniture, carpeting and
drapes that'll remodel and freshen
the Raleigh House decor . . .
Sammy and his staff belatedly cele-
brate the first anniversary of Ral-
eigh House which was opened in
November 1967, and today is
easily one of the largest and most
beautiful catering spots in the na-

tion, encompassing every facet of
catering imaginable from wed-
dings and bar mitzvas to ban-
quets to Ford, Chevy, Buick and
Chrysler doings to massive cam-
paign shindigs . An affair—any
kind—at the Raleigh House is
automatic prestige plus!

CHICO HOLIDAY, wonderful
songster-guitarist at the Afterglow
Lounge, will stay for New Year's
Eve merriment at the very popular
Detroit night spot on W. McNichols,
just west of Woodward ... Owners
Sam Fertel and Steve Lekas have
a big evening planned for goodbys
to 1968 and hellos to 1969.
• • •
UNSUNG EATING SPOT that
goes about its way in quiet fashion
is the Golden Griddle on Wood-
ward, south of 13 . . . Nowhere can
you get better local pastry ... The
Key Lime Pie and cheese cake are
particularly delicious—so much so
that mere words cannot describe
their delicacy . . And the rice
pudding—well it's beyond descrip-
tion . . . Owner Dave Burg defin-
itely has the place to go when
you're out for coffee . Don't
overlook the Golden Griddle—you
can't beat those local pies.
• • •
BECAUSE BERMAN'S is a great
name in Detroit, new owner Ben
Kasle will absolutely not deviate
its previous operation one iota from
the very best at popular prices .. .
The only thing that has been added
is free parking for three hours
during dinner from 6 to 11:30 p.m.
• • •
FOR EVERY GOOD food and
an entire evening in one spot New
Year's Eve, Vannelli's on Wood-
ward holds high billing . . . Hats,
noisemakers, balloons, etc. are all
on tap for the open house by Jack
and Fern Pagoto.
