BARRY KAPLAN, 22-year-old
son of Percy Kaplan (Jewish Na
tional Fund executive director in
Detroit) and wife Sarah, featured
again this month in Life Magazine
with his magnificent infra-red
photography, got started in this
field of picture-taking quite by ac
cident . . . He was working in New
York when brother David, at De
troit Camera, found some infra-red
film and sent it to Barry . . . When
Life saw Barry's outstanding pre
sentation, he was immediately re
tained and it furthered what had
already started out as a brilliant
career in photography for Barry
. .. The December issue of Science
Digest tells about heat photog
raphy (infra-red) at which Barry
has become a master in combining
colors to bring out the brilliance
of exotic hues as depicted in wom-
en's fashions for Life.
ALL THE "YOUNG SWING-
ERS," ages 11 thru 13, will be join-
ing "Uncle Joe" Cornell at his New
Years on the Moon Shindig, Dec.
19 at Cong. Bnai Moshe .. . Plus
Joe and his fun-felting frolics will
be the New Breed band.
ON THE MAID'S day off, Allen
Gruber volunteered to take the
heat off his wife Helen and tackle
the Herculean task of putting their
4-year-old son Ricky to bed . . .
The exhausted Helen threw herself
on the sofa and picked up the eve-
ning paper . . . An hour later,
little Ricky stole into the room and
whispered, "Daddy's asleep at
last!"
NEVER BEFORE IN the long
existence of the Knights of Pythias,
Detroit 55, over 80 years, has there
been such planning for the K of P
Pythian Sisters joint dinner-dance
honoring the newly elected officers
for 1969 . . . It's set for Feb. 9 at
the lavish and spacious Raleigh
House, with dancing by Hal Gor-
don's ork, entertainment by Sam
my Woolf and guest stars, deco-
rative preparations and food which
has made Raleigh House Caterers
one of the finest in the country .
Reservations are now being taken
and should be made as soon as
possible to allow for proper ar-
rangements. Ask any lodge or
sisterhood member or call Ted
Moss at the Raleigh House.
OVERHEARD IN THE Jewish
Community Center lobby . . . a
guest confiding to his companion,
"My wife had a funny dream last
night. She dreamed she had mar-
ried a multi-millionaire" . "You
are lucky," sighed the companion.
"My wife dreams that in the day-
time."
ESTHER AND BEN Bolton bad
a three-fold celebration recently
. . . Esther's birthday, hers and
Ben's 35th wedding anniversary
and son Dr. Norman Bolton and
wife Sheila's 8th anniversary . . .
All happened on the same date!
SAM DICTOR, former Detroiter,
writes from California with re-
gards to all . . . Sam reports that
things had gotten so tough for one
independent producer in Hollywood
that he was filming an entire fea-
ture in three days flat . . . In a
final desperate gamble to recoup
his fortune, he signed an authentic
star at $15,000 a day, and set
frantically to work ... Toward the
end of the second day, the camera-
man reported, "Gotta stop a few
minutes, boss. Our star had to go
to the washroom." . . . "Stop no-
thing!" boomed producer. "We'll
shoot around him!
