fit right over your hand . . . Great
for getting into corners, wiping
woodwork and window frames .
especially wonderful for Venetian
blinds.
RAY BRESSLER, owner with
Jack Freed at The Apartment
Lounge on W. McNichols, 21/2
blocks west of Southfield, is re-
membered by many as the barber
who used to cut their hair ... Ray
was a barber over 40 years and
only recently put down his scissors
professionally.
MARTIN KAPLAN of Sterling
Electronics has become somewhat
of a male Elsa Maxwell . . . His
lavish parties, given just because
he feels like throwing an affair,
seem to outdo each other . . .
About 100 guests recently reveled
in the 6,000 sq. foot Kent-Windsor
Room of Raleigh house, where a
miniature Las Vegas gambling ca-
sino was set up with roulette
wheels, blackjack tables, etc—the
only "familiar faces" missing were
the one-arm bandits (slot ma-
chines.) . . . Of course dinner isn't
served in a gambling casino, but
Martin had flaming chateaubriand
for everyone, liquor flowed like
water, prizes galore and hundreds
of millions of dollars passed from
hand to hand—only play money, of
course!
DON'T WAIT UNTIL the last
minute to make your plans for New
Year's Eve . . . Many places do
not require reservations, but many
restaurants would like them so as
to know how much to prepare .. .
Whichever place you choose to go,
it is wise to find out first whether
or not you need a reservation .. .
Within the next couple of weeks
I'll try to keep you informed as
possible . . . and also give you the
column's recommended places to
go for a good time on New Year's
Eve.
CONGENIAL "SHARP AS A
TACK" Joseph Ales, bar manager
at Vannelli's, has been there 12
years now and is a big favorite
among daytimers who come to the
very fine eatery for lunch or late-
day cocktails .. . Since Jack Pa-
goto has been transforming Van-
elli's into a terrific seafood house,
he's had numerous requests for
dishes unheard of in Detroit . . .
Jack won't be stumped—he's add-
ing them to his menu! . . But
don't think you still can't get a
good steak or delicious spaghetti
at Vannelli's . . . I had a strip sir-
loin lunch ala Italian style, and
can say it was one of the best ever
. . . Being a stickler for medium
rare just-so might be a big rea-
1 son, since so many restaurants do
not know how to cook meat prop-
erly to order.

THE JOY OF A JOB is supreme
. . as indicated by a small-time
vaudeville couple, playing a dismal
little circuit, standing weary and
cold at the curb . . . They had fin-
ished their last turn and were on
their way to a cheerless room in
a cheap shoddy theatrical hotel
. . . In prospect was a miserable
midnight meal, cooked over the
flickering gas jet, a 4 a.m. call and
a long day-coach journey to the
next engagement As they wait-
ed there for a bus, a costly limou-
sine turned the corner . . . The lit-
tle thespians caught a glimpse of
richly-attired people in furs, jewels
and opera hats . . . "Looks pretty
wonderful," sighed the actress
. . • "Yeah," agreed her partner.
"Yeah, it looks wonderful. But re-
member, they can't act!"

Lydda Airport to Open

Hotel Ponchartrain's Cabaret La March, Minister Says

LaBoheme Exhibits New
Poster Collection, Decor

Boheme is showing off its new col-
lection of 19th Century French pos-
ters and $50,000 Montmartre decor
in the skyview restaurant.
Thirty original lithographs, cre-
ated by French masters such as
Toulouse-Lautrec, share honors
with the newly created 19th Cen-
tury Parisian decor during the
showing.
A new full color booklet about
the gallery, particularly empha-
sizing Lautrec's contributions to
the art world and describing the
lithographic technique is available
to guests of the Cabaret.
Located on the top floor of the
Ponchartrain, the Cabaret area is
flanked on three sides by glass
walls with a view of Detroit and
Windsor skylines and the Detroit
River.

JERUSALEM (JTA)—Transport
Minister Moshe Carmel said at a
press conference that by next
March Lydda Airport will be bet-
ter equipped to handle passengers
than it was before the recent fire
that destroyed its main passenger
terminal building.
Carmel said he accepted the crit-
icism of the airport's fire-fighting
system contained in a report by an
investigating commission of the in-
terior ministry. The report charged
that the terminal had been built
without regard to internationally
accepted fire-control standards and
that the workmanship had been
substandard.
Carmel said the terminal will be-
gin providing minimal services by
mid-December.
