This prediction was made by a
scientist who has pioneered in the
field, Dr. Ephraim Frei, a phy-
sicist, head of the electronics de-
partment of the Weizmann Instiute
of Science, in a lecture delivered at
the 14th Annual Conference of
Magnetic Materials, held at the
New York Hilton Hotel.
Dr. Frei reported on a tiny flex-
ible magnetic catheter with a per-
manent tip, called the pod, which
can be threaded through the vas-
cular system and swim fish-like
through the blood stream.
Developed in Dr. Frei's labora-

tory in 1963, and since refined,
the pod magnetic catheter, pro-
pelled from outside the body by
alternating magnetic fields, has
been used experimentally since
1964 in the cardiovascular sys-

Israel Tourism in a
Record Income Year

NEW YORK — The year 1968
will see records set in Israel tour-
ist traffic with an estimated 430,-
000 visitors expected by the end
of the year.
Income earnings from tourism,
exclusive of the earnings of El Al
and Zim, the Israel national car-
riers, will reach approximately
$90,000,000. This will put tourism
in a close race with citrus exports.
the traditional leader.
The statistics were disclosed by
Meir de Shalit, director general of
the Israel Ministry of Tourism,
who is currently on a planning
visit to North America. During his
stay, de Shalit attended the open-
ing of a new Israel government
Tourist Office in Boston. The new
office, which covers New England,
is the sixth on the North American
continent. The other Israel Govern-
ment Tourist offices are in Los
Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Mon-
treal and New York.

In an interview, de Shalit
noted that "The great sense of
identity with Israel which swept
North American Jewry during
the trying days of May-June,
1967 was quickly turned into an
interest in seeing the country
itself," he said.
"By the time October-November
1967 came around, the trickle had
turned into a torrent. That inter-
est has continued unabated to this
day. I should add that prospects
for next year are just as good."

er also discussed the possibility of
using magnetic materials, guided

by remote control, to make meas-
urements inside the human body.
Since modern magnetometers are
now so sensitive, said Dr. Frei,

physicians can measure the elec-
trical activity of the heart by
