Headliners, New Cars Coming to 1968 Auto Show
There'll be plenty of cars and
stars at the 53rd Detroit Auto Show
opening Saturday at Cobo Hall.
The cars will include 300 domes-
tic and imported passenger cars,
recreational vehicles, campers, ex-
perimental and show cars. And the
stars will include Detroit Tiger
pitchers Denny McLain and Mickey
Lolich and a host of headliners
from the sports and entertainment
orlds.
The Auto Show w ill open daily
through Dec. 8, closing each night
at 11. One of the largest automo-
bile exhibits in the country, the
show will cover 300,000 square feet
in Cobo Hall, with a special 1,500-
seat theater in Hall D for the
twice-daily free stage show.
The Auto Show is sponsored
annually by the Detroit Auto
Dealers Association, made up of
250 franchised new car dealers
in the Metropolitan Detroit area.

°Ms' Mod Scientist to Display
'Jost What the Doctor Ordered'
Oldsmobile will augment a 15-
car Detroit Auto Show display with
a dramatization by "Dr. Oldsmo-
bile," a mod scientist ostensibly
credited with inventing the force-
air engine option for the division's
Ifi69 Cutlass and 4 - 4 - 2 models.
Dr. Oldsmobile is a fictional
character who, until now, has ex-
isted only in an advertising cam-
paign Olds is conducting in a
nu mber of automotive enthusiast
magazines. For the Detroit show,
Dr. Oldsmobile has been tempor-
arily brought to life to serve as one
of the focal points of the exhibit.
Oldsmobile's 18,000-sq.-ft. ex-
hibit area, arranged to depict a
sports stadium, also will serve
as a showcase for the division's.
entire 1969 product lineup, rang-
ing from the economical F-85
Sports Coupe to the front-wheel
drive Toronado. Included will be
Cutlass Supreme models and sev-
eral 88's and 98's.
In addition to these cars, Olds-
mobile also will display a special-
ly-appointed 98 luxury sedan hard-
top with a blue fire-frost finish.
An additional attraction will be
the custom built car that the Bev-
erly Hillbillies drive in their tele-
vision series.

19 Models for '69
Outdoor living will be highlighted
in Chevrolet's 25,000 square foot
exhibit at the Detroit Automobile
Show.
A total of 28 cars and camper-
equipped trucks will be on display,
together with animated car and
truck cutaways, safety exhibits and
a variety of entertainer-lecturers to
explain the features of the 1969
Chevrolets.
Nineteen production Chevrolets
will be shown, demonstrating the
full range of the division's six lines
of cars for 1969. There will be spe-
cial emphasis upon sporty models
Impala SS 427, Chevelle SS 396,
Camaro and Nova SS models, the
Z - 28 plus the Corvette Sting Ray.
Three of Chevrolet's new "walk-
in" station wagons will be exhibit-
ed. including one with special
ea mning equipment.
Explaining new passenger car
features will be Detroiter Willie
Tyler, nationally known ventrilo-
quist and his "assistant" Lester.
They have appeared on several
network television shows.
Chevrolet will also use a balloon
sculptor, a paddle ball expert and
several models in its car and truck
areas.
Each day during the show, one
of Chevrolet's small dream cars-
th- Chevy Jimior built on a go-cart
chassis — will be awarded to an
Auto Show visitor.
Suoercar Clinic
Featured at Show
Performance and styling features
will highlight the 39-car Chrysler-
Plymouth Division display at the
Detroit Auto Show.
The performance emphasis will
he provided by the Sox and Martin
Supercar Clinic which features
drag stars Ronnie Sox and Buddy
Martin and their Plymouth super
stock drag cars.
The styling aspect is provided
by the new Plymouth Furys,
Chryslers and Imperials, which
are framed in all new exhibits
calling attention to the fuselage
styling Chrysler-Plymouth Divi-
sion introduced to the auto world
this year.
On display will be the Chyrsler
New Yorker, 300, Custom Newport,
Newport, Town and Country Sta-
tion wagon and the all new Im-
perial, Chrysler luxury car.
