THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, November 22, 1968-47 Doris May,- Secretary to Chaim Weizmann LONDON (JTA)-Doris May, the private secretary of the late Dr. Chaim Weizmann for more than 30 years, died in Sussex Nov. 14 at age 69. Miss May joined Dr. Weizmann's staff shortly after the Balfour Declaration was issued in Novem- ber 1917 and retired in May 1948, when Israel proclaimed its Inde- pendence and Dr. Weizmann be- came its first president. Miss May worked with Dr. Weiz- mann when he wrote his autobio- graphy, "Trial and Error," and her help was acknowledged in the book. Nathan L. Schwartz, a retired accountant for the Michigan State Department of Revenue, died Nov. 15 at age 77. His wife preceded him in death Oct. 26. Mr. Schwartz, 16115 Forrer, was a past commander and life mem- ber of David Vincent Post of the American Legion and a life mem- ber of Craftsman Lodge of the Masons. In addition, Mr. Schwartz belonged to the 40 and 8 Club and Selective Service Board 98. Born in New York, he lived in Detroit 40 years. Surviving are a son, Dr. Law- rence of Seattle; a daughter, Mrs. Ellis (Ruth) Brownstein; a sister, Mrs. Nat (Esther) Goldstaff of Florida; and six grandchildren. Julius Greenstone; Owned Metal Processing Plant Norma Helfman, 46; Julius Greenstone, retired owner of the Vinewood MetaIcraft Co., Was School Teacher sheet metal processors for the auto industry, died Sunday at age 81. Mr. Greenstone headed the busi- ness for 15 years. Born in Hungary, Mr. Green- stone lived in the Detroit area for 65 years. His address was 15276 Miller, Oak Park. He was a mem- ber of Temple Beth El. Survivors are his wife, Ellen; three sons, Warren, Milford of Van Nuys and Robert of Grand Rapids; a daughter, Mrs. James (Elsie) Marks; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Rose Adler, Age 79 Norma Heilman, a Detroit school teacher and member of several communal groups, died Tuesday at age 46. Mrs. Helfman, a native Detroit- er, resided at 22638 Chatsford Cir., Southfield. She was a 1944 gradu- ate of Wayne State University and a member of Adas Shalom Syna- gogue, Temple Israel, Henry Mor- genthau Bnai Brith and American Jewish Congress.
