Hyman Podolsky
80 Years Young

HAIFA — For Arieh Freeman,
foreign student adviser at the
Technion-Israel Institute of Tech-
nology, the Biafra tragedy has
taken on a personal poignancy.
Last week, he received word that
Jerome Chike Ifeacho was killed
in action serving in the Biafran
forces. Mr. Ifeacho was 29 and a
1966 graduate of the Technion's
special course in agricultural en-
gineering for students from devel-
oping countries.
Speaking for students, faculty
and administration, Freeman said:
"His death is a personal loss to all
of us who knew him. We watched
him develop from a somewhat

brash boy into a mature, sensitive
and thoughtful young man. He
helped found and was president of
the Foreign Students' Association
at the Technion, and laid down
guide lines for this organization
that helped turn it into a dynamic
and positive force on the campus.
It was through Jerome's efforts
that the first real social and cul-
tural relationships were establish-
ed between foreign and Israeli
students."

Roaming in thought over the Uni-
verse, I saw the little that is Good
steadily hastening towards immor-
tality.—Walt Whitman.

of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mandell of
Willimantic, Conn.

City served as his brother's best

were ushers: Frederick Mandell of
Willimantic, Robert Golden and
Dr. Theodore Golden, both of De-
troit, and Douglas Golden of Ann
Arbor.

At age 80, Hyman Podolsky isn't
about ready to retire. He doesn't
believe in it.
Mr. Podolsky, 2001 Oxford Lane,
is a partner with his son Martin
A., in the Martin Dry Goods Co.,
551 S. Saginaw.
His father gave young Hyman a
start in the merchandising field in
Kiev, where he was born in 1888.
He came to this country in 1906
and after a period in Newark and
various northern cities, came to
Michigan.
In Traverse City, Mr. Podolsky
went to work as a manager for a
department store. There, he also
met and married a Traverse City
school teacher, Thyl Klein, with
whom he recently celebrated a
52nd anniversary.
