musicians and singers, who have
already issued six records of Has-
idic melodies. Accompanying them-
selves on various instruments, they
have given concerts all over the
United States. .

Levitan has
Levitan been connected
with the Israel Bond Organization
ever since its founding nearly 18
years ago. He came to Detroit as
director of the Israel Bond Organ-
ization in March 1958; during this
time, the Israel Bond Campaign
has grown into a major source of
support for the state of Israel.
Levitan served with the U.S.
Armed Forces in Europe in
World War II, and after the war
was chief of the UNRRA Bureau
of Documents and Tracing and
division chief of the Internation-
al Refugee Organization (IRO) in
Germany. In these positions, he
was responsible for rescuing
hundreds of Jewish children who
had been abducted and "Aryan-
ized" by the Nazis. Later, he was
head of all the Jewish DP camps
in the central section of the U.S.
Zone of Germany and also ser-
ved as IRO director of welfare
for all of Italy and as regional
director for the Joint Distribution
Committee (JDC) in Italy.
Returning to this country, he ser-
ved as West Coast speakers bureau
director with the United Jewish
Appeal and was head of the Israel
Bond offices in Winnipeg, Minne-
apolis and San Francisco before
coming to Detroit.
Levitan has been active in many
Jewish causes here. He is member
of the board of Adas Shalom Syna-
gogue and a vice chairman of the
building fund committee; Bnai
Brith District 6 centennial chair-
man for the Detroit Metropolitan
Council, and a member of the
board of Pisgah and Einstein
lodges; consultant to the Pioneer
Women's- Beth Nehama Campaign;
member of the board of the Zionist
Organization of Detroit; former
board member of Arlazaroff
Branch, Farband; past president
and lifetime vice president of the
Radomer Mutual Society of Detroit;
member of the Jewish War Vet-
erans; honorary member of Mahal,
the Association of American Vol-
unteers in the Israel War of Inde-
pendence; and a member of Shaarit
Haplaytah.
