THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

Why we believe in
Hubert Humphrey.

Law and Order
Because of his devotion for more than two
decades to the human rights, civil rights,
and equal opportunity for all Americans, as
Mayor of Minneapolis, as U.S. Senator, and
as US. Vice President. We believe he is the
best qualified to bring about harmony and
orderly progress, urgently needed in our
urban areas.
Human Rights
Because he has vigorously fought bigotry
and discrimination at all levels against black
and white and is the only candidate to cham-
pion the integrity of the Supreme Court.
We look to his election as the best safeguard
for our fundamental democratic freedoms.

Social Reform
Because in his 23 years of public service he
has initiated and fought for the great social
reforms, now a part of the American life, in-
cluding Medicare, Aid to Education; Aid to
Retarded Children; the War on Poverty. We
know that his continued leadership is im-
perative to spur advancement of social prog-
ress for all our citizens.

Israel
Because he has demonstrated his support
for Israel at all the crucial stages of its crea-
tion, survival and development these past
20 years; and has been outspoken against
Soviet anti-Semitism. We know that his
commitment is heart-felt and not an elec-
tion year posture.

World Peace
Because he has worked for two decades to
end the threat of atomic war, initiating the
creation of U.S. Arms Control and Disarma-
ment Agency; the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty;
the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, The
Peace Corps. We agree with The New York
Times that he has "the character, courage
and judgement to lead our nation."

Peace in Viet Nam
Because he has said he will stop the bomb-
ing of North Viet Nam; arrange for a cease
fire; de-escalate the participation of U.S.
Troops. We feel he is the best man to achieve
a prompt negotiated end to the war in Viet
Nam.
