STUDIO NEW CENTER

THE STORY THAT the Raleigh
House is booked solid with no
choice dates open, is quite far-
fetched ... One of the finest cater-
ing emporiums in the country, the
Raleigh House is so huge that it is
able to accommodate much much
more than an average establish-
ment . . . The Raleigh House's
ability to give every party individ-
ualized personal attention has also
quieted many skeptics who never
thought it could be done.
THE VERSATILE "Swingin'
Lads," one of the moving-est acts
in show biz today, is at The Moon
for a three-week engagement that
started last Monday . . . Led by
Don Kelley, a former psychology
major at Indiana State University,
who has managed the group since
its debut four years ago, the sex-
tet is performing its unique song-
dance and comedy routines three
times nightly in the Lunar Lounge.
WHEN OUT ON THE town, at
places you don't normally fre-
quent, be sure to check your check
. . . Too many non-popular places
have a habit of "padding" the bill
and there's nothing you can do
about it after the damage is done
. . . Don't just say, "I'll never go
there again." . . . Think of the
next person . . . If more people
will look over their checks, these
places will give another thought to
tacking on extra do-re-mi . . .
Michigan's Liquor Commission is
among the strictest ... and frowns
heavily upon this type of place.
HAS NOTHING TO do with
newspapers or newspapermen, but
this drink is called a Gazette . .
1/2 Brandy, 1/2 Sweet Vermouth, 1
Teaspoon Lemon Juice and 1 Tea-
spoon Sugar Syrup . . . Stir well
with ice and strain into glass.

Vannelli's, is getting in a huge
tank for live lobsters in his all-out
effort to have one of the largest
and finest seafood menus around to
go with his extensive steaks, chops
and Italian fare . . . In fact, Van-
nelli's will have seafood appetizers
and dishes found nowhere else in
this region! . . . Jack holds the
distinction of being a member of
the American Culinary Federation,
the largest group of elite chefs in
the country . . . His night man-
ager, Fred Glaeser, is an old time
food man also .. • He worked with
his dad in the grocery and meat
business on St. Antoine and Ma-
comb away back before opening a
complete food service in Grosse
Pointe which he had from 1919 to
1950 . . . and speaking of the elite,
Fred really had them!
LOONEY LAWS . . . Colorado
forbids the serving of food in a
room which is used for any other
purpose .. In Winona Lake, Ind.,
it is illegal to eat ice cream
at a counter on Sunday . . . In
Oklahoma City, you cannot take a
bite of another person's hamburger
. . . It is illegal to buy a glass of
milk in San Francisco—it must be
sold only in sealed containers . . .
Here's a doozy--In Greene, N.Y..
you cannot eat peanuts and
walk backwards on the sidewalk
while a concert is on . . . A lot of
folks would probably like to make
this one a national law—about an
Astoria County, Wash., ordi-
nance decreeing that all restaurant
menus must be written in the
"American" language . . . We'll
end with this one in Lehigh,
Neb., where it is against the law
to sell doughnut holes—(honest
injun !)
