`Funny Girl' a Sellout

"Funny Girl," the movie version
of Barbra Streisand's hit Broad-
way musical, started a long run at
the Northland Theater this week.
It stars Miss Streisand as Fanny
Brice and Omar Sharif as her
gambling husband Nicky Arnstein.
Co-starred are Kay Medford, Anne
Francis and Walter Pidgeon as
Florenz Ziegfeld. The story traces
Miss Brice's dramatic rise to star-
dom in the "Ziegfeld Follies" and
her heartbreaking romance and
marriage to Arnstein.
Over a dozen songs and prod-
uction numbers are throughout the
film, including "People," "My
Man," "Don't Rain on My Parade."
"I'd Rather Be Blue" and "You
Are Woman, I Am Man."
The Variety Club is sponsoring
the local premiere of "Funny
Girl," benefiting the growth and
development wing of Children's
Hospital. Following the opening

are two weeks of almost consecu-
tive sold-out benefits and charity
theater p art i e s. A Northland
spokesman indicated that tickets
are being sold months in advance,
and that "Funny Girl" is already
the advance sale record holder
over any movie in Detroit history.
