Word of Cheer From Mount Clemens; Feldman's Mineral Baths and Passover Kosher Sedorim Will Be Continued There will be sedorim at Feld- man's Hotel in Mount Clemens, Jerry Feldman assured us this week. Because his father, Morris Feld- man, is aging, is no reason to as- sume that "The Baths of Arethu- sa," operated by the Feldmans, and the kosher hotel that had at- tracted hundreds for the sedorim, will not longer operate, he said. Jerry Feldman told The Jewish News this week that the hotel continues to attract many from the Eastern states, tha t Detroit friends can plan on Passover ob- servance and that there is no truth to rumors that the world-famous Vein co ELECTRONIC GARAGE DOOR OPENER Coll Evenings Until 9 353-3284 mineral baths will no longer be available for the rheumatic. "We are operating, we will continue to operate, we remain the only kosher hotel left in Mount Clemens, and we are here to serve our very many Jewish patrons," the younger Feldman said. The rumors were that the world famous baths in Mount Clemens were coming to an end. The Feld- man reassurance offers a new ray of hope for the many who need the mineral spa, who come to Mount Clemens season in, season out. Feldman's "The Baths of Are- thusa" became world famous. While mainly the elders, many from New York and environs, con- verged upon Mount Clemens, there are some younger folks who come to the baths. "We offer, in our baths, healing powers, and we hope never to abandon the means we offer to many people to find relief from their sufferings," Feldman said. Recalling that many famous people had come to his father's spa—George Jessel, Eddie Cantor, Governor Williams — Jerry Feld- man said that the crutches that were left behind by those who found relief at Feldman's Mineral 41110..hos a better idea Because they have IRV KATZ at McDonald Ford 14240 W. 7 Mile Road at the Lodge X Way DI 1-3800 - • • • • • Harry Thomas • a ONLY THE BEST • FOR FALL AND WINTER ama • a a a a • U X • aa Special m A • U Group of m a • • FINE SUITS • • • • 11111•11111•1111•11***1[011•111*••1101*• 11 Present The most exciting and most complete selection we have U U ever offered. "Therefore we'll stay here," he said. "And we'll continue.to serve our many guests, And we'll have kosher meals and traditional se- dorim on Passover." Mayor. Abraham S. Levine of Mount Clemens applauded Jerry Feldman's decision. He ex- pressed pride in a decision to retain a great asset for his city and to continue rendering heal- ing service through the avail- able minerals. Feldman's announcement was greeted cheerfully also by the many now at the mineral-provid- ing hotel in Mount Clemens and old-timers in the city who recall the other similar hotels and spas that went out of business, ex- pressing pride in one hotel's de- termination to retain the reputa- tion that has made Mount Clemens famous. Dr. Mazar Tells of Find Outlining Solomon's City (Direct JTA Teletype Wire to The Jewish News) JERUSALEM — Dr. Binyamin Mazar, prominent Israeli achaeolo- gist, said Wednesday that he be- lieves he knows where the western limits of King Solomon's Jerusa- lem are located. He made the statement to a group of ministers and heads of in- stitutions that have been financ- ing his- archaeo- logical work near the southern wall of the temple compound in Old Jerusalem. T h e excavations b e - gan shortly after Israel united the old city with the new in the June 1967 Six-Day Dr. Mazar War. Prof. Mazar said Solomon's Jeru- salem was bounded by a thick wall that lies beneath pavements dating from the much later Herod- ian period that borders the south- ern wall of the temple mount. He noted that pottery of the 7th Century, the first temple period, was discovered in soil used for landscaping the slope of the Herodian temple. Dr. Mazar announced also that the first season of digging near the temple wall ended Tuesday. Dig- ging will continue without interrup- tion, he said, but Tuesday was the deadline for findings that will be included in a publication to be issued shortly. New findings will not be an- nounced, unless they are of excep- tional importance, until the second season is ended next year, he said. Italian Jews Not Exempt From Tax Because They `Weren't Enemy of Nazis' ROME (JTA) — The Italian government has ruled that Jews in Italy who survived persecution during World War II cannot be exempted from paying a post-war reconstruction levy that has been applied to all Italian residents who were not considered "enemies" by the Fascist regime. Finance Undersecretary Vincen- zo Russo said arguments to ex- empt Jews were "worthy of full consideration under a human as- pect" but lacked a "convincing legal basis." The levy was imposed in 1947 to help rebuild Italy's shat- tered economy. Many Italian Jews have demanded exempticin on the grounds that they were treated far worse than enemy aliens by the Nazis. A total of 28 applications were approved for Gaza returnees, but only a dozen showed up. The names of those who applied for re- turn were broadcast by Amman Radio Tuesday. The youths ar- rived in Gaza in a bus bearing offi- cial Jordanian license plates which was permitted to enter and cross Israeli territory.
