Violinist Michae I Rabin Named
Artist at Annual Balfour Concert

A distinguished American violin-
ist, Michael Rabin, will be the fea-
tured artist at the annual Balfour
Concert of the Zionist Organization
of Detroit, in Ford Auditorium,
Nov. 24.
Dr. Sidney Friedlaender, chair-
man of the concert committee,
stated in his announcement that the
guest artist, Michael Rabin, 31, has
been acclaimed by Maestro Dimitri
Mitropoulos as "a violin genius
equipped with all that is necessary
to be a great artist."

The Rabin family includes an-

father and son. Rabin's mother was
a member of the piano faculty of
Juilliard School of Music for many
years. Michael began his study of
the piano a the age of 5, and
two years later the gift of a wiolin
from a family friend led him to
become interested in that instru-
ment. Realizing his son possessed
a bona fide talent, the senior Rabin
took the boy to Ivan Galamian at
the Juilliard School.
Rabin's professional debut was
on the Bell Telephone Hour at the
age of 13. The same year he made
his orchestral debut with the Na-
tional Orchestral Association.
