Bnai Brith to Mark 125th
at Madison SqUare

NEW YORK (JTA)—The 125th
birthday party of Bnai Brith will
be held in Madison Square Gar-
den Dec. 2, and Dore Schary,
chairman of the organization's
Anti-Defamation League, will be
chairman, Dr. William A. Wex-
ler, Bnai Brith president, an-
nounced.
He said the Garden event would
be the start of a year-long na-
tional observance by the 500,000-
member organization. Schary de-
scribed his plans for the presenta-
tion as "a showcase of Bnai Brith
in action." He said the program,
would be dramatized at the Gar-
den in sketches by well-known
playwrights with leading roles to
be performed by prominent actors.

American Jewish Committee, suc-
ceeded Dr. Abram L. Sachar.
The latter had served as presi-
dent of the Jewish-sponsored, non-
sectarian university since its found-
ing 20 years ago and is now chan-
cellor.
Abram was invested with the
academic hood of blue, designating
the ancient Hebrew tribe of Dan,
denoting a judge. Speaking before
an audience of 2,500, he addressed
himself to the most burning issue
on American campuses today —
student protests and student par-
ticipation in university policy-
making.
"The right of students to protest
seems to me to he a right and not
a privilege," Abram said. "The
right of students, faculty or any
one else to disrupt the learning
process is no right at all. It is
wrong. I will do everything I can
to resist it. I reject the modern
paeans to violence."
