The American Jewish Commit-
tee announced the appointment
of two prominent intergroup and
community relations specialists to
the top positions in its New York
Chapter. HASKELL L. LAZERE
was named director and DAVID
GELLER director of community
relations. The New York chapter
is the largest of 100 AJC chapters
and units throughout the country.
Lazere has been a consultant to
and has set up intergroup rela-
tions workshops at several ma-
jor universities, including Wayne
State and Western Michigan Col-
lege of Education.

Dr. .JEAN B. ROSENBAUM, will
be placed in the Smithsonian Insti-
tute in Washington, D.C. Dr. Rosen-
baum, a former medical student at
Wayne State University, invented
he device in 1951 while he was a
research assistant at WSU. Dr.
Rosenbaum, now living in Santa
Fe., N.M.. has received interna-
tional recognition for his invention
and several awards, including the I
coveted Max Thorek Award in sur-
gical research.

GILBERT C. OSNOS. former
Detroiter, has joined the Nazareth
Mills Division of the Kayser-Roth ,
Corporation in New York as vice
president and general merchandise
manager. His wife is the former
Margaret Paysner, daughter of Dr.
and Mrs. Harry Paysner. Osnos was
formerly an executive of Arlan's
Department Stores. - The Osnos'
have two children.

A print "Zede in the Czar's Army"
by LOIS DORFMAN of Lamber
villtkr, Mich. has been accepted by
the jury of the International Minia-
ture Print Competition and will be
on exhibit at the I.B.M. Galleries,
in New York Ciy, at a show which
opens Oct. 21, given by the Pratt
Graphic Association. Mrs. Dorfman
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Nathan. L. Milstein of Cambridge
Rd., Pleasant Ridge.

AVRAHAM SCHENKER, w h o
was elected to the executive of the
World Zionist Organiaztion and the
Jewish Agency at the 27th World
Zionist Congress, left New York
for Jerusalem, where he is estab-
lishing his permanent home as an
Oleh. In his new capacity as head
of the department of organization
and information of the Agency,
Schenker will attend, on his way
to Israel, the convention of the
Scandinavian Zionist Federation in
Stockholm.

Monday Lecture Series
to Explore Man's Nature

The adult education committee
of Birmingham Temple announces
a fall series of 10 lectures will be
presented by Rabbi Sherwin T.
Wine on "What Is Man?" starting
8:30 p.m. Monday at Robert Frost
Junior High School.
The ideas and theories of con-
temporary philosophers, psycholo-
gists and anthropologists will be
presented and evaluated.
The series will extend for 10
consecutive Mondays.

Says Israel, Mexico
Share Hope for Peace

MEXICO CITY (JTA)—Ambas-
sador Avraham Darom of Israel
told Mexican newspapermen here
that Mexico and Israel shared a
love of peace. He praised Mexico
for pursuing a policy of peace in
the international area and said
that Israel was sincere and honest
in its quest for peace in the Middle
East. The envoy spoke with the
press after he had formally pre-
sented his credentials to President
Gustavo Diaz Ordiz.

Zionist Council Head
Urges UN Persuade
Arabs to Negotiate

NEW YORK—Rabbi Israel Miller,
chairman of the American Zionist
Council, coordinating body of all
Zionist organizations in this coun-
try, urged that the Arab member
nations of the United Nations be
called upon to sit down and nego-
tiate "a peace treaty with Israel
as an indispensable step toward
peace."
Addressing over 600 chapter and
region representatives of Bnai Zion.
American fraternal Zionist organi-
zation, at the annual public instal-
lation of national officers, Rabbi
Miller said:
"Secretary General U. Thant did
not permit the prestige of his office
to prevent him from suggesting the
presentation of a resolution calling
for an end to the U. S. bombing in
North Vietnam as an indispenable
step toward peace. But one waits
in vain for a statement by Mr.
Thant calling upon the Arab mem-
ber nations of the UN to take the
simple logical step of sitting down
and negotiating a peace treaty with
Israel as an indispensable step to-
ward peace. "

was re-elected president of the or-
ganization.

Socials for Unaffiliated
to Start Fourth Year

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (JTA) — A
one-man effort to provide social
occasions through Saturday night
dances at Jewish community cen-
ters and synagogues for unaffili-
ated Jewish youngsters in Bergen
County will get under way for a
fourth year Saturday at the Engle-
wood Jewish Community Center.
Morris Magaziner, a Harrington
Park accountant, who organized
Jewish Organized Youth, said he
expected between 3,500 and 4,000
such Jewish teen-agers to attend
the eight dances scheduled for the
current organizational year. He ex-
plained that he had felt something
should be done about the problem
because the scheduled social events
given by Bergen County synago-
gues and centers were primarily
for members of youth groups affil-
iated with these institutions, and
the unaffiliated Jewish teen-agers
were not being reached.
