The Michigan Real Estate As-
sociation, an organization of 8,000
realtors and associates, honored
FRED E. SHELDON of Mayfield
Dr., Royal Oak, as Realtor of the
Year, for his territory at its an-
nual convention in Flint. Sheldon
received one of the highest honors
presented to realtors of Michigan
for his civic service as a realtor
and as a leader in Oakland Coun-
ty, as well as North Woodward
Board of Realtors, Michigan Real
Estate Association and National
Association of Real Estate Board
activities during 1968.

alt,BRANDMAN have been appointed
assistant managers with Metropoli-
tan Federal Savings and Loan As-
sociation, it was announced by
Roger C. Richards, president. Mrs.
Goldberg will serve as assistant
manager of the asociation's new
Southfield office, in the Tel-Twelve
Mall. Brandman will serve as as-
sistant manager of the associa-
tion's Oak Park office, 25555

Congregations announces the ap-
pointment of SYDNEY GROSS as
its national director of public rela-
tions.

"Operation Coffee Cup" is a
campaign organized by the Oak-
land County Council of Republican
Women's Clubs to make sure
voters will meet all Republican
candidates in their district through
informal gatherings in private
homes. MRS. HAROLD RUBEL of
Forrest Hill Dr., Bloomfield Hills,
is co-chairman for the 18th Con-
gressional District, and MRS.
STEWART STEINBERGER of
Seneca Ave., Oak Park, is the Oak
Park city chairman. The women
will help in the task of acquaint-
ing voters with two Congressmen,
10 state legislators, five county
officers, 27 county board of super-
visor candidates and assorted can-
didates for statewide offices.

Dr. BENJAMIN SCHWADRAN,
an authority on the Middle East
and on the political aspects of oil,
has been appointed research pro-
fessor in the department of Middle
Eastern and African history of Tel
Aviv University. He will undertake
a year's exhaustive study of Isra-
el's foreign policy and write a
monograph on the subject at the
department's Shiloah Research
Center, one of the world's leading
centers for Middle East studies and
will conduct seminars and give
English-language courses on the
Middle East to overseas students.

Israel's minister of tourism and
development, MOSHE KOL, had
an hour long audience with Car-
dinal JOSEPH SUENENS, the pri-
mate of Belgium, who was invited
by !Col to make a religious pilgrim-
age to the Holy Places in Israel.
Sol and the church leader dis-
cussed the facilities available to
_ pilgrims to the Holy Land and reta-
t lions between the Israel govern-
ment and t h e various Catholic
\ churches there. Kol was the first
member of the Israel government
to visit the Belgian cardinal.

Israel's Deputy Prime Minister
YIGAL ALLON stopped in London
on his way home from the United
States. His visit was private and
ft was not known whether he will
meet formally with any British

10th annual conference of the In-
stitute of Strategic Studies last Fri-

has been named Michigan chair-
man for United Nations Day for
the second year by Governor
George Romney. Proclamations by
the President of the United States
and Governor Romney will estab-
lish Oct. 24 as UN Day to mark
the 23rd anniversary of the sign-
ing of the United Nations Charter.

native Detroiter, has been engaged
by Cong. Bnai Israel of Norfolk,
Va., for the High Holy Days. Can-

student at Yeshiva University in
New York. In addition to his inten-
sive talmudic studies in the univer-
sity's theological seminary, he is
completing his senior year at Ye-
shiva College, majoring in music.
Last year, after several years of
further cantorial studies at Yeshiva
University's Cantorial Training In-
stitute, he was awarded a cantor's
certificate. Upon graduation from
Yeshiva University, Cantor Feigel-
man intends to continue with his
cantorial career while pursuing his
theological education and post-
graduate work in music.

Prof. MANFRED EIGEN, 1967
receipient of the Noble Prize for
Chemistry, attended the 11th Inter-
national Conference on Coordina-
tion Chemistry at the Technion.
Prof. Eigen, of the Max Planck In-
stitute of Physical Chemistry in
Gottingen, West Germany, deliver-
ed a main symposium lecture,
"Kinetics and Mechanism of Main
Group Ion Substition in Biological
Systems."

itual service at Brandeis Univer-

An American human relations
expert packed a tape recorder,
went to Israel to explore the hu-
man dimensions behind all the Mid-
east reports, and came back with
26 unique radio broadcasts ranging
from in-depth interviews with gov-
ernment officials and religious
leaders to the problems of an Arab
orphanage on the West Bank. The

laboratory, he has authored a
technical paper on the effect of
exploding mines against combat
vehicles operating in Southeast
Asia, based on his own observa-
tions made during a special assign-
ment to the area last year.

appointed executive vice president
