The City National Bank Purchases
Additional $25,000 in Israel Bonds

The City National Bank has taken an additional position in State
of Israel Bonds, it was announced by John H. French, Jr., president
of the bank, and has purchased $25,000 of the newly launched
Second Development Investment Issue of 51/2 per cent 90-day-on
demand State of Israel Bonds. The new $200,000,000 issue is for
banks and other eligible institutions. This purchase b _ rings the hold-
ings of the City National Bank to $100,000 in State of Israel Bonds.
Presenting a check for the $25,000 additional Israel Bond purchase
by the City National Bank are (from left) John H. French, Jr., pres-

Dr. MORDKHE SCHAECTER of
the Bronx, a leading authority on
the Yiddish dialect, has been ap-
pointed assistant, visiting professor
of Yiddish at Yeshiva College, the
undergraduate school of liberal
arts and sciences for men at Ye-
shiva University, it was announced
by Dr. Isaac Bacon, dean of the
College.

Dr. MOSHE H. GOSHEN-GOTT-
STEIN, professor of Semitic lang-
uages and Bible philosophy at the
Hebrew University, Jerusalem, has
joined the faculty of New York
University's Institute of Hebrew
Studies for 1968-69. He is the Judge
Abrah.am Lieberman Visiting Pro-
fessor in Hebraic Studies for the
year, Dr. David Rudaysky, direc-
tor of the NYU Institute, an-
nounced. The new Lieberman
Professor is a general editor of the
Hebrew University Bible Project
and the Modern Hebrew Dictionary
Project.

WISS, director of the Jewish Agen-
cy's immigration department, re-
cently left on a trip to the United
States, Switzerland and Denmark.
Their first stop is Austria where
thousands of Czech refugees, many
of them Jews, have gone since the
Soviet occupation of Czechoslo-
vakia. Gen. Allon, who heads Is-
rael's new absorption ministry,
will look into the possibilities of
immigration by Czech Jews.

Surprise Visit to Israel

JERUSALEM (JTA)—A ten-man
delegation from Czechoslovakia
arrived here unexpectedly Sunday
to attend the international congress
on poultry raising. The group was
headed by Prof. Clemens, dean of
the veterinary faculty at Brno
University. A Romanian delega-
tion is also participating, and the
Soviet Union announced that it
would send a representative but
he has not arrived yet.

JDC Gives Funds, Food to Red Cross
of Iran for Relief of Quake Victims

in 1962 and when floods ravaged
Teheran that same year, Horwitz
stated.

GENEVA—A donation of 325,000
rials ($4,300) has been transmitted
by the American Joint Distribu-
tion Committee to the Red Lion
and Sun Society, the Iranian Red
Cross organization, toward relief
of the victims of the earthquake
disaster which has struck eastern
Iran, it was announced by Louis
D. Horwitz, JDC Director General.
In addition to the cash contribu-
tion, 30,000 pounds of flour and
4,000 pounds of edible oil have
been made available to alleviate
the plight of the survivors. The
flour and oil represent part of the
U.S.-donated Food for Peace sup-
plies used by the JDC office in
Iran for its regular feeding and
relief programs- for needy Jews
in that country.

previously been made by the JDC
