authoress, at a meeting of the
Woman's Auxiliary, United Hebrew
Schools, 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at
the Esther Berman Building.
Mrs. Broner will discuss the con-
temporary scene in relation to
young people in their search for
values. Her topic "The New Nobil-
ity," is also the name of her prize-
winning short story • in "Prize
Stories 1968: The 0. Henry
Awards," according to Mrs. Joseph
Kripke, program vice president.
Her second book will be published
Sept. 25. Mrs. Broner teaches crea-
tive writing at Wayne State Uni-
versity.

Cook grated carrots in 34 cup of wa-
ter 15 minutes. Do not drain. Mix car-
rots undrained with grated, drained
potatoes, egg yolks, salt, sugar and

cracker or matzo meal, butter or fat,
Fold in egg whites beaten stiff but not
dry. Bake in a 350-degree oven one
hour. Serve hot.

cup sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup confectioner's sugar
5 eggs, separated
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup heavy cream, whipped
1/2 cup of any jam

Sift together twice, the sifted flour,
salt, cocoa and confectioner's sugar.
Beat 5 egg yolks until lemon colored
and fold sifted ingredients into them.
Beat 5 egg whites stiff but not dry, and
add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Fold into egg
mixture. Spread into jelly roll pan
(11x16) and bake in a 350-degree oven
15 or 20 minutes. If edges are hard, cut
off with a sharp knife. Turn out on a
damp cloth and roll cake and cloth - to-
gether the long way, like a jelly roll.
When cold or when ready to serve, un-
roll and spread with whipped cream
into which jelly has been folded. Fold
up again. When ready to serve, slice
cake.
