For infor- mation, call Sharon Alterman or Cheryl Chapin, Group Services Di- vision, DI 1-4200. • . • - The first apartment complex in a Bnai Brith-sponsored program to erect nonprofit, nonsectarian housing developments for elderly persons on limited incomes will be completed in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Construction of a 100-unit, high- rise building, planned for an urban renewal section of the city, will begin early next year. The project will be financed by a $1,500,000 federal mortgage loan. Bnai Brith's Seligman J. Strauss Lodge in Wilkes-Barre has organized a corporation to build and maintain the project. It will include a recreation and social center, lounge, snack bar, craft room and auditorium. Registration of students for Birmingham Temple's Sunday school and Hebrew school will take place 10 a.m.-noon Sunday at the Robert Frost Junior High School, Oak Park, where Sunday school classes will be held. Classes begin Sept. 15. All teach- ers are members of the congre- gation, and Mrs. Nina Scheyer will be principal. Jewish achievement and human- istic values are stressed in the curriculum, which carries the child from nursery through high school. - The latter is centered about a four-year cycle of subjects in- tended to be comprehensive of the philosophy of Birmingham Temple. This year, emphasis is placed on the story of humanism. In successive years, students will encounter the basic concepts of the story of Judaism, the world religions and ethical problems related to teen-agers. Israeli Hebrew is offered to stu- dents who are in grade 5 or above. The Hebrew curriculum involves reading, writing and simple con- versation, the story of the holidays and life in the land of Israel. Pupils are prepared for Bar Mitzva, Bat Mitzva and/or con- firmation. * 4: * Hold Lecture Tonight BY HENRY LEONARD The Birmingham Temple will sponsore a lecture 8:30 p.m. today on "Mysticism, Zen and Human- ism," by Dr. Milton Covensky, professor of history at Wayne State University, at the Robert Frost Junior High School, Oak Park. The Detroit Chapter of the American Technion Society is sponsoring a one-day regional con- ference and Israel product exhibit 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sept. 15 at North- land Inn. Co-chairmen of the conference are Julius J. Harwood, manager of the metallurgy department in the scientific laboratory of Ford Motor Co.; and Dr. Joseph N. Epel. Presiding at the luncheon will be Dr. Jacob E. Goldman, director of the Ford scientific lab- oratory. Subject of the all-day meeting is "Israel's Technological and Indus- trial Growth."
