Brevities

Young people from Metropolitan
Detroit and from distant commu-
nities in Asia have joined hands to
present SING-OUT, ASIA which
they believe is the fastest, freshest
way possible to demonstrate a new
purpose for their generation. Some
150 youths represent the voices of
Sing-Out, Asia a world-acclaimed
sing out musical group Which will
be heard at Ford Auditorium 8
p.m. Saturday.

be exhibited at the Gertrude Kasle
Gallery Sept. 7-Oct. 2. Giobbi's
work has been included in the
International Exhibition of Ameri-

at Brandeis University and Uni-
versity of Michigan. He is repre-
sented in such permanent collec-
tions as Academy of Fine Arts in
Florence, Boston Museum of Fine

Dr. MYRON J. BAKST of De-
troit, recently represented the Am-
erican Podiatry Association on the
speakers' platform at the 21st an-
nual Conference on Aging at the
University of Michigan. The meet-
ing was attended by health and
social service groups from through-
out the country. The conference
was sponsored by the University
of Michigan, U.S. Department of
Health, Education and Welfare and
tre state of Michigan.

The Italian government has for-
mally accepted the apointment of
AMEIL NAJAR to be Israel's new
ambassador to Italy. Najar was
previously ambassador to Belguim
and represented Israel before the
European Economic Commission.
He succeeds former Ambassador
Ehud Avriel, who returned to
Jerusalem to become chairman of
the Zionist Council.

GEORGE STEINBERGER, gen-
eral agent in Southfield for the
Franklin Life Insurance Co. of
Springfield, Ill., ranked fourth na-
tionally in personal production for
the month among 3,500 company
representatives. His July sales to-
taled $376,864.

FRED BERK, nationally famous
choreographer and producer of Is-
rael folk dance programs and
groups, has been appointed direc-
tor of the Israel folk dance depart-
ment of the American Zionist Youth
Foundation in New York. The new-
ly organized department will ex-
pand services offered by the foun-
dation to national and local youth
organizations throughout the coun-
try.

ceived the National Sales Achieve-

of Assoc. Prof. MICHAEL CAIS to
full professor in the department of
chemistry. Dr. Arnon Dar was
named associate professor in the
department of physics, and senior

ulty of civil engineering; Dr. Tuvia
Lamdan, electrical engineering;
Dr. Yoram Avnimelech, agricul-
tural engineering;Dr. Shmuel M.
Avital, teacher training; and Abir
Ardel, materials engineering.

sentative for Indianapolis Life In-

ZEEV SHAREF, who just a few
weeks ago assumed the portfolio
of minister of finance in the Israel
government in addition to his du-
ties as minister of commerce and
industry, will address the Ameri-
can-Israel Chamber of Commerce
and Industry, Inc., at a special
members' luncheon noon, Thursday
at Delmonico's Hotel, New York.

$1,000,000 to Brandeis

WALTHAM, MASS. — A gift of
$1,000,000 from a prominent New
York attorney will enable Brandeis
University to consolidate its chem-
istry programs Into a school of
chemistry.
The gift of Brandeis trustee
Harold Fierman will establish the
Harold and Minnie Fierman School
of Chemistry, which will incorpor-
ate the present graduate and un-
dergraduate programs, including
research activities, lectures a n d
colloquia.
Brandeis' chemistry department,
quartered in a 10-building science
complex completed in 1965, has
been cited by the American
Council on Education as a na-
tional leader in the field of grad-
uate study. The chairman of the
department is Dr. Saul G. Cohen.
