JWV Commander Hits 'Inquisition'
of Abe Fortas at National Convention

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — "The
grueling inquisition to which Sup-
reme Court Justice Abe Fortas has
been subjected by Senators who
seek to block his nomination as
chief justice has unintentionally
given aid and comfort to bigots
throughout the nation," JWV Na-

MRS. WILLIAM NICHAMIN

Lesley Ogden Finkelman, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. H. 0. Finkel-
man of Middletown, 0., recently
became the bride of William How-
ard Nichamin, son of Dr. and Mrs.
Samuel J. Nichamin of York Rd.,
Huntington Woods.
The ceremony took place at the
Netherland Hilton Hotel in Cin-
cinnati with Rabbis Albert Gold-
man and Meyer Marx officiating.
The bride wore a skimmer-style
gown of linen shantung fashioned
with Venise lace yoke and sleeves.
A deep border of the lace trimmed
the hem of the A-line skirt and the
chapel-length train. Her triple-
tiered veil of English silk illusion
was held by a contoured halo of
matching fabric and lace.
Rosalind Ulin of New York
City was maid of honor. Tina
Katz of Washington, D.C., and
Linda Wonderly of Ann Arbor,
were bridesmaids.
Henry David Nichamin of Hunt-
ington Woods was his brother's
best man. Brother of the bride,
Brent Finkelman of Middleton,
James Brook of Huntington Woods,
and Michael Thomas of Birming-
ham were ushers.
After a honeymoon trip to the
Pocono Mountains, the newlyweds
will reside in Cncinnati.

Sng ag ements

tional Commander Samuel Sam-
uels reported to delegates to the
73rd national JWV convention at
the Diplomat Hotel here.
Samuels said that "While we do
not charge Senator Griffin of
Michigan, or any other Senator,
with anti-Semitism, it is clear that
Sen. Griffin and his supporters
have opened a Pandora's box of
prejudice in their zeal to create
issues of 'cronyism' and 'lame
duck appointment' . . they have
singled out the first Jew ever
named as chief justice in Ameri-
can history as their special tar-
get . . . "
The JWV may ask the post-
master general to consider new
regulations that would prohibit
the use of the mails to dissemi-
nate material printed abroad to
defame religious and racial
groups.
Action was prompted by a re-
cent incident in New York un-
covered by the JWV national ac-
tion committee, in which the no-
torious anti-Semitic book, "The In-
ternational Jew," by the late Henry
Ford (subsequently disavowed by
him), was being shipped into the
U. S. from Lebanon addressed to
Gerald L. K. Smith, notorious
American hate-monger.
"During the Nazi era," Samuels
pointed out, "Adolf Hitler ordered
the reprinting of 'The International
Jew' in German. It was used as a
school text."
U. S. Customs in New York held
up the shipment on the grounds of
defective labeling. A representa-
tive from the Arab Higher Com-
mittee subsequently corrected the
mislabeling in person and tran-
shipped them to Gerald L. K.
Smith.
Samuels, in a statement issued
Tuesday, protested against, the
"grim blanket of silence and in.
human treatment" imposed by
Communist North Vietnam over
the fate of Americans held cap-
tives.
Samuels told the executive com-
mittee that the "calculated trickle
of two or three prisoners released
from time to time by Hanoi was
designed for propaganda purposes
at crucial stages of so-called peace
talks."
