Danny Raskin's LISTENING P O CANTOR NICHOLAS FENAKEL, while a surgery patient at Sinai Hospital, told patient Evelyn Lewis that he learned a lesson in how to visit people from now on. . . He told her how he - often would visit people at the hospital to offer them good wishes for their recovery . . . but until he had become a patient himself, never realized that while the patient was most pleased to be remembered, it was not the quan- tity of time spent that counted . . Just a few minutes of being there and wishing them well is really all that is needed . . . Cantor Fena- kel indicated that visitors would many times extend the time of their visit, not realizing that in many cases they added to the dis- comfort of the patient. A FAVORITE PASTIME of steel man Roger Ross, is recalling mem- ories of his yesteryears . . . and telling them at imfortnal get-to- gethers. . . Last week at the After- glow, Rog told of the time his brother, and present partner, Har- ry, came home from school and scowled at their father. . . "I got in trouble today, Dad, and its all your fault," said Harry. . . Their father wanted to know why, and Harry,- still scowling, said, "Re- member I asked you how much $100,000 was? . . . Pop said he did and demanded to know what of it. "Well," Harry told him, "a helluva lot, ain't the right answer." DENNIS AND DEBBY Silber went all out to honor Sandy Silber and Freddie ,Samson, who will be wed this August. .. They charter- ed a Bob-Lo Boat last week, in- vited over 700 people and took - them all out to Bob-Lo Island for food and entertainment. . . The invitations they mailed to the hap- py celebrants were ships in a bot- tle indicating the time and place of the festivities. ASKED WHETHER HE had ever realized any of his boyhood hopes. brother Marvin Raskin replied, "I sure have. When my mother used to comb my hair, I often wished 1 didn't have any." WHEN MARTIN BUDMAN IS installed as president of Detroit Lodge, Bnai Brith, Sept. 10 at Town and Country, he'll have the best wishes of comedians Joey Bishop and Kenny Milton. . . Ken- ny will be here to appear at the installation dinner dance for both himself and Joey. . The two comics are from Chicago and had a pact that whoever made it first on TV wouldn't forget to give the other exposure. . . Joey of course has his own show on ABC, and Kenny has been a frequent visitor. Tickets to the Detroit Lodge affair can be gotten by calling Lou Trot- sky, LI 8-4999. LOOKING BACK ON YESTER- YEARS . . . JULY 25, 1952 . . Diane Rosen and Linda Shaw, both 10 years old, are starting out young in the ways of humanitarianism... that is, as they see it ... Last week, in Diane's back yard, they gave a show for charity, charging one penny for children and two cents for adults . . and wound up with a grand total of 27 cents . . . which they will use for their next show in the fall . . at higher prices . . . following expenses in- curred whenever the ice cream man comes around now. . "After all," says Diane to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David A. Rosen, "it's to help needy children, and we sure do like ice cream!" ...
