3 New Facilities Granddaughters Welcome Rabbi Levin to Be Dedicated at Ortonville Camp THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS 32—Friday, August 2, 1968 Popular Delicatessen Sold to Gunsbergs; Krugels Are Honored Business Brevities One of Detroit's most popular delicatessen stores change hands this week. Max Krugel of Modern Delica- tessen on Fenkell and Holmur sold to Gunsberg's this week, and while the business will continue it will be under new management. Many of the Krugels' friends took occasion to recall the many gatherings that were held there, the role the delicatessen played when friends and business associ- ates met there. Charlotte and Ralph Walker, among those who took occasion to commend Krugel for his serv- ices, recalled that his parents started the eatery more than 40 years ago; that during the years people of all faiths and all races met there; that it was almost like self-service because of the friendly relationships between owners and customers. Walker said: "So often, many of us just rang up the amount due for sandwiches and drinks. We were like one, owner and patrons. That's why Modern Delicatessen became a popular name for so many in the community." BRUCE J.
