FAMOUS DESIGNER

ESSES

WITH LABELS!

We and They

By PAUL ELDRIDGE
Offer them love and. they spurn
_ you,
Hate them and in self-righteous
fury
They wave . threatening fists.
and they spit upon.
Be humble
you

Turn aggressive . ' and they clamor:

"How vulgar is the Jew
Remain With your own and you
.
are treacherously. clannish;
Break the magic circle of resriction
And their faces freeze in arrogant
denial.
Preach peace and you are abject
cowards,
Lift your voices against tyrannical
injustice
And you are hostile harbingers of
war.
Be the penurious peddlers and they
drive you off,
Acquire wealth and in. frantic erivy
'.•
they despoil you. ,
Refuse . their knowledge and • they
• .
revile you,
Embrace it. and_theii bcc 71, got •fro),
their hails of learning.
Seek your rights according to their
solemn laws
And you are strangers brazen and
unwanted. •
Claim your land according to their

sacred 'pledges -
And guns block your entry, though
millions die.
Thus twixt the open door of _re-
jectian
And the locked door of admittance
They shuttlecock on the loom of
their eternal wrong
Your variegated tapestry of perpet-
ual grief,
While, as salt upon your ever
opened wounds,
They dare to prattle and in in-
solence exult:
"Behold our Christian mognanim-
ity!"
