Israelis Study Expansion
of Technical Education

HAIFA (JTA)—In a move to
implement a decision by the board
of governors of the Technion, Is-
rael's Instiute of Technology, to
expand the undergraduate enroll-
ment at the institution, the Tech-
nion Council has appointed a spe-
cial committee to study the expan-
sion of technical education in Is-
rael.
The Israel government had re-
quested a 40 per cent increase in
student enrollment in the engi-
neering faculties of the Technion
to provide for an anticipated
growth in demand for technical
engineering personnel. The institu-
tion had announced plans to en-
large its undergraduate body by
400 a year, starting in 1969.

Horses in Israel

There is a side to the Middle
East situation that rarely—if ever
—occurs to anyone but a horse
lover: the fate of the Arabian
horse.
Detroiter Leon Silber, a school
counselor who raises Arabians as
an avocation, described the horses
of Israel for a trade journal, "The
Horseman's Courier." Silber, 1676
Lincolnshire, had spent eight
weeks touring Israel seeking out
Arabian horses after the Six-Day
War.
The Detroiter said he saw a
group of some 25 horses brought
back from Jordan during the war.

Israel Exempts Immigrant
From Certain Taxes

JERUSALEM (JTA) — The de-
partment of internal revenue said
that all immigrants or foreign
residents who arrived in Israel

tion from inheritance taxes on
large portions of their estates. The
exemption applies to a person's
total assets overseas and all as•.
