Action Urged
on Gun Control

The New Detroit Committee
(NDC) strongly urged the gov-
ernor and the legislature of Mich-
igan to take immediate steps to
support the adoption of current
gun control legislation now before
Congress.
Stanley J. 'Winkelman, chair-
man of the NDC's community
service subcommittee, and NDC
members have sent telegrams to
Michigan Senators Robert Griffin
and Phil Hart stressing the need
for stricter Federal legislation
which would make it unlawful to

WASHINGTON — Rep. William
Broomfield, Michigan Republican,
Wednesday introduced a House-
Senate concurrent resolution call-
ing on West Germany to extend
the time within which prosecution
of Nazi war criminals may be be-
gun in the Federal Republic.
Noting that all prOsecution will
cease at the end of next year, Rep.
Broomfield, a member of the House
Foreign Affairs Committee, said
that Nazi criminals still at large
must not be permitted to escape
punishment.
The Broomfield resolution noted
"the deep moral debt of Germany
to its past." He observed that the
Bundestag, West Germany's lower
house • has passed a resolution call
ing on government to report to the
Bundestag on the issue of extend-
ing the statute of limitations on
Nazi crimes.
His house resolution would pro-
vide for Senate concurrence. It
would tell konn that the U.S. Con-
gress urges "such steps as may be
necessary" to extend the period of
time for prosecution of criminals
of the Hitler era.
