Long Lake Rd., Bloomfield Hills, announce the engagement of their daughter Judith Jo to James Stephen Goldwasser, of Monte Vista Ave., son of Mrs. Lawrence Goldwasser of St. Louis, Mo., and the late Mr. Goldwasser. Center Welcomes Israel Shaliakh Mordekhai Tel-Tsur joined the Jewish Center staff as the new director of the Hebrew and Israel culture department, replacing Asher Tarmon, who is returning to Israel. Tel-Tsur was born in Southern Germany. In 1934 he emigrated to Palestine with one of the first Youth Aliya groups, which was organized by Henrietta Szoid. He worked with kibutz groups and re- ceived Hagana training courses, becoming a military instructor. In 1942 after having Kibutz Hazorea, he volunteered for a special Ger- man commando unit of Palmakh. In 1945 he was sent by the Aliyah Beth Center as a radio communi- cations operator to Beirut, Leba- non. From 1946 to 1948 he did diary farming for the kibutz, and es- tablished and edited their weekly newspaper. In 1948 he was appointed by the Jewish Agency as an emissary to the DP camps in southern Ger- many. He returned to Kibutz Haz- orea in 1950 and was the manager of the dairy branch. Tel-Tsur became the regional correspondent for Al Hamishmar, the daily newspaper, in 1955. After leaving this job he became a teacher and principal of Hazorea Ulpan. He was also at this time a special correspondent in Central Europe for Al Hamishmar. He came to New York in 1960 as the Jewish emissary to the Student Zionist Organization of the United States and Canada, conducted the College Summer Ulpan sponsored by the Jewish Agency and estab- lished the "Summer in Kibutz" program. Upon his return to Israel in 1962 he resumed responsibilities for Hazorea Ulpan, coordinating "Summer in Kibutz" in Israel at the same time. Tel-Tsur is fluent in Hebrew, English, German, French and Yid- dish, and has done many transla- tions into Hebrew of German and English texts, including opera libretti and lyrics, Brecht's plays, etc. He is married and the father of New Bonn Israeli Envoy 'Keen to Go' BONN (JTA)—West Germany's Ambassador, Karl Herman Knoke designated to Israel expressed sur• prise today that he was selected for the post but said he was "very keen to go to Israel" as a result of many meetings with Israeli col- leagues. Knoke, who is presently Bonn's ambassador to the Nether- lands, added, in an interview with German newspapers, that "one should not forget what crimes the Germans committed against the Jewish people and this is a burden which is upon us."
