ministry of absorption, its func-
tions and responsibilities w ill
have to be determined by a joint
committee of the government
and Jewish Agency which has
been appointed and will report
shortly."

U.S., Israeli Aides Out
to Cut Trade Deficit

JERUSALEM (JTA) — United
States Undersecretary of Com-
merce Howard J. Samuels met
with Israel's Minister of Trade and
Industry Zeev Sharef to explore
ways to reduce Israel's $102,000,000
a year trade deficit with the United
States.
Sharef said that in view of Is-
rael's expanding industry, its im-
ports from the U.S. were likely to
increase. He hoped that America
would find ways to increase its
imports from Israel. Last year Is-
rael's exports to the U.S. totaled
$91,000,000. But its Imports amount-
ed to $193,000,000.
