"In the Shadow of War and Fire"
is the name of an album of stories,
poems and drawings, setting forth
the thoughts and experiences of
children in Israel kibutzi• during
the Six Days War. Published by
"Sifriat Hapoalim" the publishing
house of the Hoshomer Hatzair, it
is edited by Borta Hazan with an
introduction by Abba Kovner.
The spirit of freedom in which
the children in Israel's kibbutzim
are born and brought up, is mani-
fest in the direct and uninhibited
manner in which they give expres-
sion to the storm within their
hearts, to their fears, the deep an-
xiety for their fathers and mothers
and the other members of the kib-
utz who were fighting with the
Defenselorces or who had to work
outside the shelter.
A spirit of love for their people
and love for mankind, a desire for
peace and brotherliness—this is the
atmosphere in which these children
have been brought up since in-
fancy, This spirit -is manifest in
their cogitations during the Six
Day War.
