Andrew Beider, 16,Wins Kalt Award

The 1968 K a 1 t Scholarship
Award, a trip to the State of Israel,
was presented to Andrew Beider,
16, during confirmation exercises
at Beth Abraham Synagogue last
week.
The third annual award, given
in the name of the Kalt judges
committee of Beth Abraham, was
presented by Steven Kalt, son of
Mrs. Bee Kalt.
The 1967 winner was Evelyn Naf-
talie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Naftalie of Whitcomb Ave.
Andrew, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Morris Beider of Kenwood Ave.,
Oak Park, is a 1968 graduate of
the Hebrew High School of United

of the Beth Abraham Youth
Group. He served as a soloist in
the synagogue boys choir for six
years. Andrew's father is a
teacher at Ferndale High School
and served as a co-chairman of
the Beth Abraham Hebrew
School board and youth com-
mission.
The award is presented annually
by the congregation on the basis
of the candidate's Hebrew educa-
tional training, participation in the
larger community activities, and
on a personal interview with the
Judges. Each candidate must also
submit an essay on "Why I Want
to Visit Israel."

The Livonia Jewish Congrega-
tion's United Synagogue Youth
Group will host the regional Sum-
mer Board Sunday through Tues-
day.
Guests from Ohio, Illinois, West
Virginia, Kentucky and Michigan
will take part in study groups, re-
ligious service s, lectures and
dances.
The three days were planned by
the youth themselves with LJC
adult advisers. The five meals are
being prepared and served by the
food committee.
