A total of $37,000 in Israel Bond subscriptions was announced; a record for the congregation. Irwin Cohn Heads Cash Mobilization of 1968 Allied Jewish Campaign Irwin I. Cohn has been appointed chairman of an emergency cash mobilization committee of the Al- lied Jewish Campaign, Hyman Safran, president of the Jewish Welfare Federation, announced. The committee seeks immediate cash payments on pledges to the 1968 Allied Jewish Campaign- Israel Emerg- ency Fund, as well as pledges made in prior years. "A l l informa- tion from Israel underscores the , great urgency of immediate cash payments to meet t h e continuing critical n e e d," Cohn said. "The superb pledges ti our Allied Jew- Cohn ish Campaign and Israel Emerg- I ency Fund can serve this purpose for Israel's people only when they are transformed into cash." Cohn is a former Allied Jewish Campaign chairman and is a board member of the Jewish Welfare Federation, United Hebrew Schools and the Detroit Service Group. Detroit's effort will be a part of a nationwide campaign. Paul Zuck- erman, national campaign chair- man for United Jewish Appeal, is a part of the national cash collec- tion committee which will aid in the collection program. "People have already responded generously this year with pledges of more than $9,300,000, and just as generously, we know that they will make good their. pledges," Cohn said. Dolzin said that the figure in- cluded many professionals and 2,000 students already in Israel who decided to register as im- migrants. He said the Jewish Agency expects 30,000 immigrants during the current year, from 12,- 000 to 14,000 of them from Western countries.
