Expressing the hope that Dr.
Nahum Goldmann's explicit state-
ment that he no longer aspired to
that high office, would remain in
force, Zuckerman writes:"... Rela-
tive to this issue I deem it neces-
sary to caution the leaders of my
own World Labor Zionist Party in
Israel and abroad, not to seek
presidential can lidates among our
own ranks. I will not consider even
the question whether or not there
is such a competent person among
us. There is no reason why the
established tradition of electing a
General Zionist to that top post
should be disrupted at this time

man continued — "is noteworthy
insofar as it includes some of the
most illustrious figures in Zionist
history for the past 70 years. The

According to Chammas, Israel
has not submitted proof of its
claim that it was retaliating for
shelling from Lebanon because Is-
rael has "unilaterally revoked the
Israeli-Lebanese armistice agree-
ment of 1949, thus paralyzing the
work of the Israel-Lebanon Mixed
Armistice Commission."
According to Lebanon, Israel at-
tacked Lebanon as part of an al-
leged drive to accomplish its "ex-
pansionist aims." The Lebanese
letter did not call for a meeting
of the Security Council on the
issue.
The Egyptian and Israeli ambas-

was known, these conferences were
the first to have taken place here
since Jarring came to UN head-
quarters last week to continue the
mission which he had carried on
through more than 42 separate vis-

and Jordan. None of the parties
involved would make any state-
ments about-the substance of their
talks. The UN secretariat did not
even announce the fact that the
talks had been held.

Jewish Press Hailed
by Klutznick at Parley;
Rosenberg Re-Elected

CHICAGO (JTA) — Philip M.
Klutznick, former international
president of Bnai Brith, told edi-
tors and publishers attending the
25th national convention here of
the American Jewish Press Asso-
ciation that "the Jewish press is
the Only hope for reaching and
educating vast numbers of Amer-
ican Jews who are today abysmal-
ly ignorant about their own com-
munity as well as Israel."
Klutznick urged the editors to
be more "probing" and to speak
out courageously on the problems
affecting American Jewry. The
Chicago Jewish leader warned that
"ignorance of our present - day
American Jewish community can
destroy it even if we master all of
our past history contained in the
Bible."
Adolph Rosenberg, editor and
publisher of the Southern Israelite
of Atlanta, Ga., was re-elected
president; James Wisch of the
Texas Jewish Post, Jules D. Miller,

To the Anatomy of the Forces of
Progress and Reaction in the Middle East

by M. S. Arnoni Introduction by D. F. Fleming

Are Nazi genocides . to be matched by "social-
ist" genocides?

Little known background facts, shedding light
on the true nature of Arab and Jewish national-
isms, their conflict, and their respective inter-
play with international forces.

PAGE 110: "The spectacle of communists, so•
cialists and Asian and African anti-imperialists
supporting the policies of unreformed pro-Nazi
Arab leaders is unbelievable despite its sad
reality. No presumed ideological or political
consistency is worth such dehumanization."

PAGE 101: "Soviet zeal in opposing Israel pro-
vided the opportunity for many an unadmitted
East European anti-Semite at last to find a re
spectable outlet for long frustrated emotions."

It is the best study of the Arab•Israeli conflict
and tragedy. It is unique and indispensable in
an area of history and knowledge.that is of ut-
most concern to the contemporary world.
