34—Friday, May 24, 1968 Elazar Honored for 20 Years' 1 No Fund Raising at Tuesday Dinner Services With Hebrew Schools at Yeshiva U. Twenty years of dedicated serv- ices as superintendent of the United Hebrew Schools were given high recognition by spokesmen for leading Detroit agencies as well as the schools. At the annual dinner of the schools, held Wednesday at Adas Shalom, plaques were presented to Elazar and the retiring president of the schools, George Zeltzer, pre- sented Mr. and Mrs. Elazar with a gift from the board for a trip to Israel. The Elazars will be on a six-month study mission in Israel as their sabbatical. Among those who spoke in honor of the Elazars were heads of the principals' and teachers' organiza- tions, spokesmen for the schools and the Jewish Welfare Federation and the schools' women's auxiliary. Segal. In his response to the many encomia, Elazar said that 20 years of accomplishments would have been impossible without community-wide cooperation. He spoke with pride of the many opportunities provided in Detroit as a major cultural center in America. In his annual educational report, Dr. Yabko reported that the school s' collegiate department, Midrasha, is receiving accredita- tion and that a Bachelor of Judaic Studies will soon be offered to stu- dents in that department. He an- nounced that courses to be given at the University of Detroit in Jewish subjects with the coopera- tion of the United Hebrew Schools provide 64 hours' credit towards a degree. Morris Karbal will be the guest of honor at• the dinner, where he will be presented with the Yeshiva Uni- versity Distinguished S e r v ice Award. A large attendance is indicated on the basis of reports from the dinner committee. A contribution in support of the Yeshiva University scholarship fund enables a couple to attend the dinner. It has an inviolate tradition of never turning away a worthy scholar for lack of funds. It is the parent institution of the famed Al- bert Einstein College of Medicine and Hospital. Many Yeshiva gradu- ates are serving our community." CBS Washington Correspondent Martin Agronsky will be the guest speaker at the dinner. There were appliques of jeweled Alencon lace over the sleeves and bodice. A float of organza formed the detachable train that fell to chapel length. The headress was a lace and jeweled toque that held a veil of shoulder- length pure silk illusion. The bride carried her confirmation Bible covered with flowers. Sema Lederman was maid of honor. Carol Faudman, Barbara Faudman, Carol Salzenstein and Sondra Stein were bridesmaids. Edmund Faudman, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Steven Dickerman, Daniel Palmer, Michael Salzenstein and Richard Kahn were ushers. After a honeymoon in Florida, the couple resides in Berkley. Since announcing its Aug. 12 three-week Study Tour to Israel, the Jewish National Fund has re- ceived inquiries as to accommo- dations.
