Agronsky to Address Yeshiva -University Fete

Martin Agronsky, Washington
correspondent for the CBS Tele-
vision and Radio Networks, will
be the principal speaker at the
13th annual dinner of Detroit
Friends of Yeshiva University, to
be .held 8:30 p.m. May 28, at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek.
Agronsky's address will high-
light an occasion of tribute to
Morris Karbal, who will receive
the Yeshiva University Disting-
uished Service Award.
The evening of tribute coincides
with the 13th wedding anniversary
of Morris and Hannah Karbal.
Agronsky, who covered the last
Republican and Democratic con-
ventions, is a winner of the cov-
eted Alfred I. DuPont Commen-
tator's Award for outstanding cov-
erage of the Eichmann trial in Is-
rael. The veteran newsman also
received the George Foster Pea-
body Award for his "At Issue''
news programs, and the National
Headliners Club Award, and has
served as president of the Radio
and Television Correspondents As-
sociation.
A graduate of Rutgers Univer-
sity, Agronsky began his journal-
ism career as a reporter for the
Palestine Post.
He reported the waning days of
the Spanish Civil War for British
and American newspaperS, later

joining the International News
Service in Paris.
Agronsky joined NBC News in
1940 as its Balkans correspondent
and in the early days of World War
II he covered the British Army in
North Africa and RAF bombings
over Italy. Transferred to the Far
East, he reported the Japanese at-
tack on Singapore and covered
MacArthur in Australia.

He became Washington corres-
pondent for ABC in 1943, holding
that post for 14 years. In 1957, he
rejoined NBC, as Washington cor-
respondent and took on a variety
of special assignments, including
the signing of the Test Ban Treaty
in Moscow, the Eichmann Trial
and narrations of news seen on the
Huntly-Bvinkley Report., Today,
and news specials. He now hosts
several CBS News programs, as
well as "Face the Nation."
