Heyd, former first secretary of the
Israeli Embassy in Washington.
died here Monday at age 55. He
was the head of the Hebrew Uni-
versity's Institute for Asian and
African Studies and was recog-
nized as an expert on-Turkish and
Middle Eastern culture. He was the
author of "Dahir al-'Umar, Ruler
of the Galilee in the 18th Century."
