He is a former chairman of the Detroit Israel Bond Committee. Outlining plans for the dinner„ Cohn stressed the significance of the milestone in Israel's history and said: "We are fortunate in having as our guest speaker for this first anniversary celebration of the Six Days in June a great fighter and champion for Israel's independence. "Menahem Begin, as head of Irgun Zvai Leumi, played a key role in helping the so-called illegal immigrants to reach Palestine, thus counteracting the repressive immigration policy of the British administration. He preached in- dependence for Israel and fought for it, by every possible means. When the British pulled out in 1948 and the State of Israel was estab- lished, all of the underground de- fense groups were merged into the Defense Forces of the new State. Begin was a member- of the first Knesset and has been reelected ever since. A year ago, he became a member of the coalition Cabinet which has been in effect since the emergency. - "During that crisis, American Jewry responded magnificently in an unprecedented wave of gifts and Israel Bond purchases. "We all have good reason to be proud of Israel's achievements thus far. We have all gained spiritual regeneration from the unification of the Holy City of Jerusalem. Will the new Israel measure up to the new opportunities that lie ahead? Will we measure up to the chal- lenge of a new decade of problems and needs which require our united action and our continued partnership of faith and deeds? Our answer on June 4 can help to shape the course of a decade." :«: • S .`",,,, -••••••• Just about the greatest gown values ever !
