Beth Hine'. to Honor Gorge,
Celebrate Israel's 2 Decades

Cong. Beth Hillel will hold its I
sixth annual Israel Board dinner,
honoring Benoit Gorge, six-term
president of the congregation, and
celebrating Israel's 20 years of
statehood, 6 p.m. May 26 in the
social hall of the synagogue.

Gorge has been a leader of the
congregation more than twelve
years. He has had a key role in
the building
of the sanctuary
and in the growth
and development
of the congrega-
tion. Born in Lux-•
embeurg, where
his family had
lived for genera-
tions , young
Benoit left Lux-
Gorge emburg at age
13, when the Nazi invaded the
country. The Gorge family went to
Santo Domingo, where they lived
for four years, until they could get
visas to this country. Benoit went
to high school in Santo Domingo.
Relatives brought the family to De-
troit after World War II, and
Benoit c on t i n u e d his education
here. He served in the Korean War.
In 1953, he married Evelyn Guyer,
and they have three c h i l d r en .
Gorge is the owner of Wrigley
Cleaners, a chain of 17 cleaning
shops.

man from Michigan, will speak at
the Metropolitan Detroit Pharma-
ceutical Association annual meeting
8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Shapero
Hall of Pharmacy, Wayne State
University.

His topic will be "Unfair Pricing
Practice in the Pharmaceutical In-
dustry."

Col. Zeev Shaham, who served in
the Six-Day War and was brigade
commander of the Israel Army
Central Command, will bring a
message from Israel to the dinner.
A special guest will be Gen. Wil-
liam J. Weinstein of the U.S. Ma-
rine Corps Reserve.
Rabbi Joel J. Litke will give the
tribute to the honoree, and Cantor
Joseph Birnholtz, the musical sa-
lute. Leonard Efros will be toast-
master. A cocktail reception will
precede the dinner.
