They are disappearing in the COM- munity much too fast. Like the synagogue, our fathers built years ago So that our Jewish traditions, we 1.vould know To the suburbs the people are moving day after day, Finding new homes come what may, Leaving behind synagogues they used to attend With religious memories on which they did depend. The question arises. What about the "devout Jew?" His synagogue is sold, what shall he do? His tradition he loves, he has his pride; On the Sabbath. he surely will not ride. With the children in the suburbs. he cannot live Their American way of life, he must forgive. -- What about the children, what can they say When their father wants to keep the Sabbath day? What about the rabbis, what can they do To give a helping hand, to the "be- loved Jew?" When the synagogues move, what can be done? Where can the "elderly Jew" really run? Synagogues in Detroit a few years from now Win be scarce; but who can tell how The "devout Jew" will find a way Not to ride on the Sabbath day.
