HOLLYWOOD-Danny Kaye por-
trays one of the key characters,
"The Junkman," in Warner-Seven
Arts production of "The Madwoman
of Chaillot," his very first screen
appearance since playing the title
role in the not-too-successful com-
edy, "The Man From the Diner's
Club" five years ago. Shooting of
the Ely Landau filmization of the
Jean Giradoux classic commenced
late in February in Nice, France,
with Katharine Hepburn fresh from
her triumph in Levin's "The Lion
in Winter" joining the company by
flying in from the location of the
historical epic at Tarascon in the
Rhine Valley. Others in the cast of
"Madwoman" opposite Miss Hep-
burn (in the title role) include Si-
mone Signoret, Yul Brynner, Don-
ald Pleasence, Paul Henreid,
Charles Boyer, John Gavin and
Miss Signoret's daughter Catherine
Allegret, Giulietta Masina, wife of
Federico Fellini and star of many
of his films, also will appear in
"The Madwoman of Chaillot."
Producer Ely Landau announces
that not John Huston but Bryan
Forbes will direct. The screen play
is by Academy - award winning
author Edward Aphalt.

Martin Ritt has returned to the
West Coast from New York after
completing principal photography
on "The Brotherhood," starring
Kirk Douglas, Alex Cord, Luther
Adler, Irene Papas and Susan
Strasberg. The Martin Ritt pro-
duction, a contemporary action-
drama with a Mafia background,
was produced by Kirk Douglas.
Ritt now starts preparing his next
for Paramount, "The Molly Mc-
Guires," starring Richard Harris
and dealing with the violent activi-
ties of an Irish secret society dur-
ing the bitter coal mining strikes
in Pennsylvania in the 1870s. The
new epic goes before the cameras
in May.
