THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

Hadassah Reorganized Geographically ;
to Celebrate the `Simha' on May 14

May 14 will mark an important
event in the history of local Had-
. assah; it is the "wedding day" of
• Detroit Chapter with South Oak-
land County at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek. This makes the chapter one
of the largest in national Hadassah,
advises Mrs. Robert Drews, publi-
city chairman.
Preceding the ceremonies there
will be a noon subscription lun-
cheon for which reservations are
being taken by the Hadassah of-
fice, BR 3-5441.
An original production, "Hada-
ssah's Wedding Day," the joint
creation of Mrs. David Edelman

and Mrs. Leslie Schmier, will be a
feature of the program, with Mrs.
Charles Snider and Mrs. Jack W.
Perlman, president of South Oak-
land and Detroit chapter respec-
tively, taking leading roles. Mrs.
Goldie Adler will conduct the in-
stallation rites.
Mrs. Eli Gross is directing the
presentation, and Mrs. Henry Platt
is accompanist. Mrs. Norman Rose-
enfeld and Mrs. William Deutsch
are in charge of the day.
May 14 is also a historical day
in the annals of the state of Israel.
On May 14, the British Mandate
ended. Five Arab nations attacked,
and 650,000 embattled Jews
created a nation: the state of Israel.
A resolution has been ap-
proved that the Detroit and SOC
chapters be consolidated into the
Metropolitan Detroit Chapter of
Hadassah. This reorganization
will involve a geographic redis-
tribution of members into groups
within the area where they re-
side. (see below).
It is the opinion of Mrs. Snider
and Mrs. Perlman that women be-
longing to such groups will share
a greater interest in the group ac-
tivity and develop a more intimate
and warm relationship.
