DOWNTOWN
LONDON (JTA)—Jewish organ-
izations and the Jewish community
generally welcomed the introduc-
tion of the new Race Relations Bill
in Parliament as a matter of prin-
cipal although the proposed leg-
islation hardly affects the Jewish
community or affords it protection
against race hatred.
The bill, which is assured of pas-
sage, supplements the 1965 Race
Relations Act which dealt with
racial discrimination in public
places.
Such anti-Jewish discrimination
as exists in England is of a social
nature and it would not be likely
that a British Jew would invoke
the provisions of the proposed new
legislation to sue a golf club or
country club which blackballed his
membership application.
