HOLLYWOOD — Joseph Paster-
nak, the 66-year-old Hungarian-
born motion picture producer asso-
ciated with scores of successful
screen musicals from the old
Deanna Durbin films to today's
Elvis Presley spectacles, earlier
this month staged his 29th annual
charity ball for the Jewish Home
of the Aged at the Beverly Hilton
Hotel. Pasternak has produced the
charity show ever since 1939 when
Mrs. Ida Mayer Cummings (sister
of the late Louis B. Mayer) became
president of the junior auxiliary of
the Jewish Home for the Aged in
Los Angeles.
Bob Hope, who also participated
in the gala event consistently for
the past 29 years and calls himself
an "honorary Jew," received the
"Star of Stars" plaque from Rabbi
Magnin for his devotion to the
aged. Hollywood columnist May
Mann, who acts as chairman of

Heralded as one of his greatest
motion picture achievements, Cecil
B. DeMille's "Samson and Delilah"
in Technicolor is now showing at
the Palms Theater.
Hedy LaMarr and Victor Mature,
who portray the title roles in the
Paramount re-release, head a cast
of thousands including George
Sanders, Angela Lansbury and
Henry Wilcoxon.
The climax of "Samson and
Delilah" is the destruction of the
Philistine Temple. Other key
scenes bearing the DeMille touch
include Samson's bare - handed bat-
tle with a lion, his unparalleled-
for-violence assault on a thousand
Philistine soldiers, his titanic strug-
gle with a Philistine giant and a
fearful wedding feast brawl.
