Cantor David Kusevitsky of Tem- ple Emanuel, Brooklyn, will head the list of featured artists at the 15th annual Jewish Music Festival sponsored by Adas Shalom Syna- gogue 8 p.m. May 2 in the main sanctuary. A graduate of the Vilna Academy of Music, Cantor Kusevitsky began his carrer at 18 at the synagogue of Kremenica. He also worked at the synagogues of Lemberg and Rovno. Following his release from the Polish army, he studied voice in Warsaw. While in his 20s, he accepted the post of cantor at the Hetnden Synagogue in London. In 1948, a wealthy visitor impressed by the cantor's singing, induced him to come to New York. In 1951, the Committee for Furtherance of Jewish Educa- tion acclaimed Kusevitsky as "Outstanding Cantor of the Year," "in recognition of his world-famous artistic talent and for services rendered on behalf of the Advancement of Judaism and for the welfare of his peo- ple." Kusevitsky has concertized in Israel, in many European coun- tries, in South America, Canada, Mexico and the United States. In addition he has written Hebrew liturgical compositions. Also featured at the concert will be Shirley Benyas, soprano; Sidney Resnick, baritone; and Bella Gold- berg, piano accompanist.
