Detroit Area Synagogues to Usher In Passover

With the prayer "Next Year in
Jerusalem" a reality at last, world
Jewry will usher in the Passover
season tonight. In Detroit, Jews
will celebrate the exodus from
bondage in the synagague and
home.
Birmingham Temple families
and ,friends will hold the fourth
annual seder 7 p.m. Saturday at
the Raleigh House. Mrs. Doree
Samuels will direct the music, and
Dave Manheimer will sing. The
children's Sunday- school choir will
perform. Chairmen are Ceci
Gaines and. Enid Manheimer.
Temple Beth Am will hold its
seder 7 p.m. today at the Raleigh
House. Traditional Passover foods
will be served.
Cong. Bnai Moshe will hold
ervices 6:30 p.m. today and
:45 a.m. Saturday. Rabbi Lehr-
man will speak on "'When the
Abnormal Becomes the Norm."
At services 8:45 a.m. Sunday,
the rabbi will speak on "Re-
counting the Wonders." Con-
chiding services will be held
6:45 p.m. Thursday and April
19 and 8:45 a.m. April 20, when
Rabbi Lehrman will speak on
"This Age of Ours."
Cong. Shaarey Zedek will usher
in Passover at services 6 p.m. to-
day and 8:45 a.m. Saturday. Rabbi
Groner will speak on "Can We
Answer Freedom's Questions?"
Second-day services will be held
6:45 p.m. Saturday and 8:45 a.m.
Sunday. Rabbi Teller will speak
on "The Four Freedoms." Con-
cluding services will be held 6

p.m. Thursday and 8:45 a.m. April
19; and 6 p.m. April 19 and 8:45
a.m. April 20. Rabbi Groner will
speak on "The Sign of the Sanc-
tuary."
Workmen's Circle Center will
hold its annual third seder and din-
ner 6 p.m. Sunday at the Work-
men's Circle Center. Mordecai
Teiler will direct the program,
with students from Jewish schools
and the Circle participating. For

Temple Beth Jacob of Pontiac
will hold Passover services 5:30
p.m. today. Rabbi Berkowitz
will speak on "The Hardships
Endured." At services 10 a.m.
Saturday, the rabbi will preach
on "Stirred by Memories." Clos-
ing -services will be held 5:30
p.m. Thursday, when Rabbi
Berkowitz will preach on "With
Grateful Hearts" and 10 a.m.
April 19, when the rabbi's topic
will be "Delivered From the
Tyrant's Might."
Farband members will celebrate
the end of Passover with a third
seder for Farband members, fam-
ily and friends, and as Poale Zion
and Pioneer Women and family
8 p.m. April 20 at the Labor Zion-
ist Institute. Louis Levine will
prepare a special Hagada. Nomi-
nal charge.
Passover at Young Israel of
Oak-Woods will be held 7 p.m.
today and 9 a.m. Saturday. Rabbi
Gordon will speak on "What Price
Security." At services 9 a.m. Sun-

Jerusalem the Golden Will Be Depicted in Floats
to Be in New York's Salute to Israel Parade

NEW YORK—More than 20 floats
will be a highlight of the Salute
to Israel Parade April 28. Atop
many of the floats will be dance
groups and choirs and Israeli and
American entertainers.
The parade, which will have as
its guest of honor, General Yitzhak
Rabin, ambassador of Israel to the
United _States, is the New York
metropolitan area's largest com-
numitywide celebration honoring-
Israel's 20th anniversary.
Theme of the three-hour parade
is "Jerusalem the Golden."
Leading the parade will be Grand
Marshals Sanford D. Garelik, chief
inspector New York City Police
Departinent, and Harvey Rothen-
berg, administrative assistant to

Mayor John V. Lindsay..
Among the floats entered in the
parade is a 15-foot-long United
Synagogue of America display
which will be a replica of the
Old City of Jerusalem. A high-

light of this float is the symbolic
Tower of David which will be
8 feet high. The float will have
the colors of Israel—blue and
white—and will also display the
symbol of Jerusalem.
Another float, - decorated in the
form of the Gardens of King
Solomon; will show the Queen of
Sheba and her entourage arriving
at King Solomon's Temple. This
float is being organized by Hatzaad
Harishon, the organization of the
Black Jewish Community of New
York.
Honorary chairmen Of the parade
are Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller,
Senator Robert F. Kennedy and
Jacob K. Javits, of New York;
Gov. Richard J. Hughes, Senator
Clifford P. Case and Harrison A.
Williams Jr. of New Jersey; and
Gov. John. N.. Dempsey, Senators
Abraham A. Ribicoff and Thomas
J. Dodd of Connecticut.

The New Temple Passover
Seder will be held at the Royal
Oak YMCA, 6 p.m. Saturday. For

brate Passover with services 7
p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. Satur-
day, Rabbi Arm will speak on
"The Viability of Freedom."
Services will be held 7:10 'p.m.
p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. Sun-
day when Rabbi Arm will speak
on "The Joys of Spring." Services
7:10 p.m. Sunday. Concluding serv-
ices will be held 7:15 p.m. Thurs-
day, 8:30 a.m. and 7:15 p.m. April
19, and 8:30 a.m. and 7:20 p.m.
April 20.
Cong. Bnai David will usher in
Passover 6:45 p.m. today with
services Saturday and Sunday at
8:30 a.m. Services Saturday eve-
ning are at 6:45 p.m.
Adas Shalom Synagogue will
hold services 6:30 p.m. Friday,
8:50 a.m. and 6:40 p.m. Satur-
day, and Sunday morning at
8:50. Saturday morning, Rabbi
Jacob E. Segal will preach on
"Admission of Wrong: the Pre-
lude to Freedom." On Sunday
morning, the entire festival serv-
ice will be conducted by mem-
bers_ of the youth groups.
Temple Emanu-El will have its
congregational seder • 6:30 p.m.
today. On the first day Passover,
service will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday. Rabbi Rosenbaum will
speak on : "Lo Dayertu—It Is Not
Enough." The junior choir will
sing.
Temple Israel will conduct serv-
ices 5:45 p.m.. today. The usual
late Friday night service will not
be held so that members may ob-
serve Passover seder in their
homes. Morning services will take
place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The
temple's annual congregational
seder will be conducted by Dr.
Leon Fram, Rabbi M. Robert Syme
and Cantor Harold Orbach at 6:30
P.m. Saturday in the social hall.
Beth Aaron Synagogue will usher
in Passover with services 6:30 p.m.
today. Saturday-and Sunday serv-
ices are scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
and 6:45 p.m. On Saturday, Rabbi
Gorrelick will preach on "Next
Year May We Be Free." On Sun-
day the sermon topic will be
"Freedom Is Personal and Indi-
vidual." The synagogue has been
totally renovated after the recent
fire.
Cong. Beth Hillel will hold
services 6:55 p.m. today and R:45
a.m. Saturday, when Rabbi Lake
will speak on "Poor Bread and
Rich Ideas." At services 8:45
a.m. Sunday, Rabbi Litke will
speak on "The Meaning of Free-
dom." Services 6:55 p.m. Satur-
day.
At Cong. Beth Abraham, Pass-
over services are scheduled for
6:45 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m
Saturday. Rabbi Israel Halpern
will preach on "Passover: a Lesson,
in Religion and Ethics." Services
6:45 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m.
Sunday. Rabbi Halpern will speak
on "The Hagada: a Lesson in Per-
sonal Religion." Services 6:45 p.m.
Sunday.
Young Israel of Northwest De-
troit will hold services 7 p.m.
today and 9 a.m. Saturday, when
Rabbi Prero will speak on "The
Importance of Passover."
At Temple Beth El 5:30 p.m.
today, Dr. Hertz will preach on
"The Mood and Message of Pass-
over." Services will be at 10:30
a.m. Saturday. The annual con-
gregational seder will be held
7 p.m. Saturday in the social hall.

presented a silver-botmd Bible by Bnai Brith, in recognition
of his country's friendship and close ties with the people of
Israel. Making the presentation are Sen. Jacob K. Javits (left)

Northeastern district. Tubman is a student of the Bible. In

morning services at 8:50 a.m., the
children of the religious school
will conduct a symposium. Eve-
ning services at 7:10. Concluding
services will be held 6 p.m. Thurs-
day, 8:50 a.m. and 6 p.m. April 19,
and 8:50' a.m. April 20, when Rabbi
Halpern will discuss "Auschwitz,
Washington, Moscow and Jerusa-
lem."
Cong. Beth Moses will conduct
services 6:50 p.m. today and
8:45 and 7 p.m. Saturday and
Sunday. Concluding services will
be conducted 7:05 p.m. Thurs-
