As the wife of an Italian diplo-

reached the breaking point, Count-
ess Cardelli went to Israel to serve
as a volunteer worker in a kibutz
and later as an interpreter in the
government press office.
On her return to Rome she as-
sisted the Israel embassy in pub-
lic relations work. A leading ex-

and Israel, she has been one of the
most active members on the board
of the Italian-Israeli Association.

country shortly. A native of Brus-
sels, she is the daughter of Count
Renzo Cardelli-Rinaldini, an Italian
diplomat, and Countess Elizabeth
de T'Serclaes de Kessel of Bel-
gium, and a grandniece of Cardi-
nal Aristide Rinaldini, an Apostolic
Nuncio. Countess Cardelli was
educated in Belgium and Italy.

Jerusalem Court Kills
Sabbath Observance Rule
in JNF Land Lease

JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Je-
rusalem District Court, ruling in
It test case, struck the Sabbath
observance clause from a state-
owned land lease. The clause,
which had been incorporated into
state leases of the standard Jewish
National Fund contract, prohibited
"construction or any other work
on property of the Lands Adminis-
tration on Sabbath and on Jewish
religious holidays."
The case was brought to the
court by a leader of the League
for Abolition of Religious Coercion,
who owned the JNF lease. The
court's ruling was based on the
uniform contracts law which em-
powers the courts to amend con-
tracts with bodies having a monop-
oly or near monopoly of services.
The JNF is in that category.
