liberties, Mrs. Willen was the wife
of the executive consultant to the
Federation of Jewish Philan-
thropies. She was 64.
Funeral services were held
March 22, with many outstanding
Jewish community leaders and
civic leaders in attendance.
Mrs. Willen served as president
of the National Council of Jewish
Women from 1963 to 1967 and as
president of the International
Council of Jewish Women from
1954 to 1957. A social worker by

MRS. JOSEPH WILLEN

profession, she was best known
for her work in civil rights, for
which she received the National
Council of Negro Women's Award
for Outstanding Service in 1951.
The women's leader was active
in the founding of the Liberal
Party and was a officer of a score
of Jewish, civic and social wel-
fare organizations. She was hon-
ored last April by the Office of
Economic Opportunity for her
work with disadvantaged youth
and received a distinguished alum-
ni award from Washington Uni-
versity in St. Louis March 2.
A special Pearl Willen Mem-
orial Fund has been established
by Council, to be earmarked for
an area of NCJW program which
was especially significent to Mrs.
Willen,

The Family of the Late

NEW YORK — David B. Green-
berg, writer on wildlife and con-
servation, who was honored by the
state of Israel for his services to
the Jewish people, died March 22
at age 75.
Mr. Greenberg, a native of Yon-
kers, taught poultry husbandry at
the New York State School of
Agriculture, served as an artillery
officer in World War I and later
operated with his brother a chain
of children's wear stores in sev-
eral cities. He retired to an estate
in Duchess County, N.Y., where
his experiments and knowledge
resulted in two textbooks on wild-
life, anthologies of farm stories
and essays.
After Hitler's rise in 1933,
Mr. Greenberg began a one-man
rescue operation, sponsoring al-
most 500 Jewish refugees from
Central Europe for admission to
the. United States. In 1948, he let
a group of Israeli scientists de-
velop anti-tank guns on his estate.

Ben-Gurion awarded Mr. Green-
berg the Hagana pin.
Mr. Greenberg and members of
his family have named for them
a laboratory at the Hebrew Uni-
versity-Hadassah Medical School
at Ein Kerem, newborn infants'
ward at the Hadassah Hospital on
Mt. Scopus, a large wood planted
by the Jewish National Fund near
Jerusalem and several Youth Aliya
