Catering Manager, Decor
Bring New Look to Statler
Appointment of Rolf T. P. Olofs-
son to the post of catering manager
at the Statler Hilton Hotel was
announced by Frank W. Teich,
general manager of the hotel. He
replaces Sheldon Galens, who has
accepted a posi-
tion with the
Conrad Hilton in
Chicago.
Born in Stock-
holm, Olofsson is
a graduate of
both the Air
Force Academy
of Sweden and
the School of
Hotel Administra-
tion at Stock-
Olofsson
holm. He worked in various
capacities for hotels in Germany,
France and Spain before moving
to the United States in 1963.
Following a year as assistant
manager of a Pennsylvania coun-
try club, Olofsson joined the staff
of the New York Waldorf Astoria
as assistant banquet manager,
continuing in that post until his
transfer to Detroit.
Meanwhile, Statler Hilton Hotel's
famous Wayne Room banquet
facility has acquired a new look.
Architecture has been modernized
by lowering the formerly lofty
ceiling to create new proportions.
The hotel's ballroom floor now is
completely air conditioned, includ-
ing the foyer and adjoining areas.
Statler Hilton is one of the few
large hotels with total air condi-
tioning in its ballroom complex.
Massive marble pilasters, a new
decorating theme and sidelight
fixtures to balance the lighting
are other innovations.

Oil Pipeline to Carry
60 Million Tons a Year
JERUSALEM (ZINS) --- Zvi
Dinstein, vice-minister of finance,
announced in the Knesset that the
planned pipeline connecting Eilat
and Ashkelon, will carry annually
60,000,000 tons of petroleum.
The 42-inch-wide pipeline will
compete with the Suez Canal be-
cause of reduced expenses, and the
saving of time in transporting the
oil to European ports. The first
phase of its construction is esti-
mated to cost $60,000,000.
The Israeli government is look-
ing for partners to share in the
enterprise, and has already con-
tacted a few prospective investors.
