Israel's Sportsman of the Year By JESS SILVER (Copyright 1968, JTA Inc.) Tal Brody, the former U. of Illinois basketball All-American, has been named Israel's Sports- man of the Year for 1967. Brody, from Trenton, N.J., plays basket- ball for Maccabi Tel Aviv, and works as a physical education in- structor. He first went to Israel in 1965 as a member of the United States Maccabia Games team. Brody led Maccabi Tel Aviv to the finals of the European Cup last year. No easy task, especially the game in Greece. "We had beaten Greece by 30 points at home," said Brody. "We had the return game in Greece and they would have had to beat us by more than 30 points to win. They beat us by 25. The fans threw fire crackers at us; they threw water at us. The officials "%ere against us, too. I had scored 42 points in Israel and they wanted me out of there. I fouled out on four fouls; some of the Greek players were , still playing with 11 fouls." * 1 7 The Westside Jewish Community Center of Los Angeles is continu- - - - FERRANTE & TEICHER SIXTEN EHRLING conductor MARILYN HORNE mezzo-soprano WAGNER WAGNER Wesendonck Songs ROSSI N I Aria from "Semiromide" ROSSI N I.R ESP IGH 1 Lo Boutique fontasque Tickets $2.00 to $5.50 at Ford Aud.
