Prof. Haber Retires as Dean of U-fq College of Literature, Science, Arts Dr. William Haber announced this week that as of July 1 he will retire as dean of the college of literature, science and the arts of the University of Michigan. Dr. Haber's announcement was made on his 69th birthday. His re- tirement adheres to university rules calling for the retirement at the age of 70. The coming year will be his sabbatical. President of World ORT Union, Prof. Haber, who headed the Uni- versity of Michigan department of committee on the subject, urged adoption of the legislation with only one important addition, "the inclusion of the category of re- ligion among the "identifiable groups" whose protection against bate propaganda is the major aim of the government's legislative proposal." The CJC brief defended the pro- posed bill against critics who have called it a "gag law." Noting that the bill does not envisage "prior censorship" and that under its pro- visions "no public official or police- man has the right to ban any written material or to prevent a speaker from expressing himself," the CJC brief said that "talk of a 'gag law' or of capricious and dictatorial banning of speakers or articles is irresponsible and un- warranted." NEW YORK — The formation of an advisory committee of profes- sionals in rehabilitation work was arranged in Israel recently by Mrs. Paul Herzog, president of HELP for Cerebral Palsy Children in Israel. Chairman of the committee is Mrs. Hilda Kahn, chief of the for- eign relations division of Israel's ministry of social welfare. In announcing this move, Mrs. Herzog pointed out the desperate need for trained physicians and therapists and the lack of adequate schools and out-patient centers for the mentally retarded and cere- bral palsied. She said that, "Less than half the amount which had to be spent for bomb shelters in Is- rael this year would provide care for all of the nation's handicapped children." Although a small organization, HELP has over the past seven years provided critically needed aid to a broad network of schools and treatment centers. A principal HELP beneficiary is the ONN School in Tel Aviv, founded in 1960 by eight parents of cerebral pal- sied children. Up to that time there was little being done in Is- rael for children who were palsied or mentally retarded. ONN has since grown from a one-room kindergarten to a fully equipped and staffed school for in- fants through adolescents whose afflictions prevent their attendance at regular schools. HELP has provided scholarships in rehabilitation medicine and channeled funds to institutions.
